Bob McLellan sent a newspaper clipping from the Cape Cod Times of December 21,1996; "No secret agenda for 'Wallace Group.' Because it was convenient the group met at the home of John Wallace, one of Wellfleet's best known and most respected citizens who for the last half-century has been active in community affairs."
A note came from H. J. Morris Jones '36: "I thought you might be interested in the enclosed clipping from the Roanoke Times of January 24. It happens that while I did not know Wiley Hubbell, I watched many games in which he did a fine job of handling a basketball...."
Jean Sewall, Charles Hall Sewall's widow, wrote the following: "On October 251 sent a check to the class of 1935 which included a $5,000 contribution to the memorial fund in memory of my late husband." On behalf of the class, may I express our heartfelt thanks for this generous gift. Barbara Sherwood sent a note with the sad news that A1 Sherwood died November 16; "I feel so blessed we were able to attend the Reunion—it was his last goal!" (I believe that George Colton has sent the obituary in for A1, along with one for Walter Holmes. If you are confused about all this, so am I, but for the time being I have agreed to act as the class necrologist, unless we can find another '35er to do the job.) More about Wiley Hubbell; the Roanoke Times clipping referred to above reports that he was chosen Roanoke's Citizen of the Year: "Wiley Hubbell's most significant achievement was laying the foundation for the United Way of Roanoke Valley's priority program fund distribution."
If this column is beginning to sound as if it was written by a rattle-brained class secretary, there's good reason for it. I sometimes think I'm rattle-brained, since a scary experience I had about a month ago. I was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital, where the doctors administered an electric shock treatment to reduce my very rapid heartbeat (arrhythmia) to the normal "sinus rhythm." I'm now convalescing at a tremendous institution here in Portland called Seventy-Five State Street. My goal is to strengthen my legs so that I can play golf come summer time.
