Mildred Putnam entered the Mountainside Hospital in Montclair on September 22 for surgery on her knee. Report from the hospital on October 3 wa, that the operation was satisfactory and she hopes to be home in a couple of weeks. We all extend best wishes for an early recovery.

The 1905 Memorial Fund, since my report of August 30, has received two more members. Ina Russell sent a check for Varney who died on June 17 and CharlesHodgman sent a check for his own fund. This makes five living men participating. Wish a few more would join. It only takes $100.

Our football team has started off winning our first four games. We are very happy to have Jake Crouthamel and his staff do so well and hope another new era of Dartmouth football has begun.

Florence Fall, Gib's widow, is still living in the Fall homestead at 8027 Seminole Ave., Philadelphia, Pa. 19100. As of October 1, she writes "after reading the valedictorian address by David Levy at this summer's Dartmouth graduation, I Was happy to see the article I enclose by Rabbi Sidney Greenberg during the Jewish holidays. The article was very critical of Levy's speech and was along the line of many articles in the New England press at Commencement time. I am happy that some of our Jewish bretheran feel the same way that many loyal Dartmouth graduates do. Article was in the Philadelphia Inquirer Thursday morning, September 30, 1971."

Herford Elliot's wife has been elected as the only woman on the Committee of Members of the Fund for Preservation of Wildlife and Natural Areas. Herford and Priscilla were married in 1932 and they are both extremely interested in everything connected with the Fund's subject.

C. C. Hills will be celebrating his 90th birthday on November 19. I am sure his many years of faithful work for 1905 and Dartmouth should be recognized. His address is Suwannee Hotel, Ist Ave. North. Saint Petersburg, Fla. 33731. How about sending a card to him?

Fred Chase hopes to leave for Duniden, Fla. in a few weeks. Mrs. Scales and Arthur Lord are there now. Fred had a microfilm made of his father's correspondence in years 1861 to 1874, just before he became our College Treasurer, which is now preserved in the College Library.
