Bill Steck notes about the genial class secretary and the genial class reunion chairman differing on the dates of the 40th, in June. Bill wants to know which of us is the more genial of the two. Speaking for myself, I must admit that I'm the more genial, but in this case, the less accurate. The dates for the reunion are June 14, 15, and 16; that is, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Whatever I have said in the past about other dates is simply not so, and thanks, Bill, for bringing this matter to my impartial attention.

John Benson has got the week figured, what with the first 3 days for reunion, and the 17th (Thursday) a Boston legal holiday, all he has to maneuver is Friday the 18th in order to get a complete week off, without using his vacation time. Wish I knew how to do that.

John also advised me that Bill Wilson is chairman of the class nominating commitee, so when Bill calls you, just be modest and say you'll serve.

Bill Minehan, who has had quite a career with Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company in Milwaukee, retired on December 31. He had been secretary of the company since 1952 and director of the policy benefits department since 1968. Bill grew up in Milwaukee and joined Northwestern upon graduation from high school, working there summers during college. Even with time out for army service and the time spent on his favorite hobby, traveling, Bill must have given' Northwestern a good forty years. He and his wife Mary have two teenage children, Florence and Philip.

Ed Gruen writes that his daughter got her M.D. last May. Gray Magee reports #10 grandchild, as of September, is dividing his time between Godfrey, Ill., and Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Don Cruikshank is secretary of the Toronto Alumni Association, is still associated with the office furniture industry, but now in a retail capacity. Still skates a little, and does some curling and some golfing, as well as serving as a judge of skating once in a while.

Beany Thorn wants to bill the Class for his travelling expenses to Japan this year to visit Mr. and Mrs. Smokey Joe Adams. He expects the class to cover his expenses, not Eleanor's. Beany forwarded a note from John Feltner about his visit to the Pula in Yugoslavia where Beany and Eleanor have also been. The Roman ampitheatre there was used, as Beany states, "for gladiators, slaves, and probably a few Christians thrown in to lower the welfare problem."

Bob Oelman says that NCR has developed a new electronic point of sale cash register and information system for stores in which a hand-held "wand" is a key component. He doesn't say who holds the wand—the customer or the clerk.

Please write, if only to insult me.
