FEBRUARY 1971 PAUL R. MAHONEY, ROGER H. RINES

Pete Ward is spending his last winter in the northeast as a research assistant at Lamont-Doherty Geological Observatory of Columbia University. He has recently received a Ph.D. in geophysics from Columbia, and in June will head to Menlo Park, Calif., where he will take a position with the U. S. Geological Survey at the National Center for Earthquake Research. (I think I prefer the snow!)

The new fallen snow hasn't muffled the ring of wedding bells at all. At least three of our brethren have plighted their troths in the past few months.

Dr. Paul Schunke married Miss Judith Fox in mid-fall. Both the newlyweds are associated with Cleveland's University Hospital where Judy is a registered nurse and Paul has just completed his surgical internship (he graduated from Dartmouth Med in '67 and Stanford Med in '69). They're living in Cleveland Heights, Ohio.

A late fall wedding featured Navy Lt.Jon Greene and Miss Barbara Whelan (Mt. Holyoke). Jon is on the staff of Vice Admiral Rickover at the Atomic Energy Commission. His bride is a legislative assistant to Michigan Congressman Garry Brown. Home for them is Washington, D. C.

The most recent marriage I know of was the pre-Christmas wedding of Clay Hawkins and Miss Christine Rowell (B.U. '69) in his hometown of Claremont, N. H.Winfield Clark was an usher. Clay graduated from Dartmouth in March 1969, after having served three years in the Army. He and Christine are making their home in Claremont.

Tom Mac Murray is now a captain with the Army dental corps after having received his dental degree from the Univ. of Pennsylvania last June. Tom, wife Sandy, and year-and-a-half-old daughter Jennifer are now living at Ft. Sheridan, Ill.

Jim Markman, who had been a California deputy attorney general specializing in pollution and water rights matters, has joined the firm of Martin E. Whelan Jr., Inc. in Whittier, Calif. Jim, a Cornell law grad, also lives in Whittier with wife Joyce and daughter Jennifer.

The National Institute of Health has made a grant to Hoot Gibson to do graduate work in psychology at NYU. He has also done grad work at the Univ. of Rochester. He's residing in Brooklyn.

Murray Sullivan is leading the good life in Aspen. He and his wife have lived there since 1967—he is a professional ski patrolman in the winter and spends the summer months constructing ski trails. Since leaving Dartmouth after our freshman year Murray has spent three years with the Army (in Germany) and two years with the Federal Water Pollution Control Admin, at Annapolis.

The Public Health Service currently has its hooks in Irwin Zarembok, who graduated from Dartmouth Med in '66 and from Columbia Med in '68. In June, when his stint with the government is done, he will take Peri and their son Adam (8 mos.) to Philadelphia where he hopes to complete a residency in radiology.

Palmer C. D. Wooglin has checked in again, this time to tell us that he has taken up employment as Bobby Orr's bodyguard (and Derek Sanderson's hairdresser). He says the most exciting part of his job is protecting Orr from female "assailants."

Our most published classmate must be Bob Witty, who has had three articles in professional journals recently. Bob received his doctorate in physiology from Albany Medical College in the spring of 1969, and is now a post-doctoral fellow at the Univ. of Missouri Med School.

Air Force Captain Steve Hudak has been awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service in Vietnam. He is a staff civil engineering officer with the 7th Air Force at Tan Son Nhut.

Bob Roper, who received his law degree from the University of Missouri in June, has joined forces with a couple of his law -school classmates to open a law office in Columbia, Mo. So the next time you're arrested in Missouri use that one call to which you're entitled to contact Roper, Harper & Powell.

The National Academy of Science has selected Stormy Mayo to be one of his country's representatives to the Internal'l Assembly of Ocean World in Tokyo. He is a marine biologist doing doctoral work at Miami (Fla.) Univ.

Dan Walden, recently out of the Army, has joined the Central Vermont Public Service Corp. as a public information assistant. Home base for him and his family (wife JoAnn and year-old son John) is Rutland.

The engagement of Glenn Currie to Miss Susanne Gosnell (Cedar Crest College) of Greenwich, Conn., has been announced by her parents. Glenn is with Avco Corp. in Greenwich. The wedding will be in early February.

Birger Benson is finishing up his MBA work at Harvard this year—his specialty is personnel and industrial relations. The Bensons have a year old son, Mark, and are living in Auburndale, Mass.

Harvard B School will also be home for the Ed Keibles, they hope, starting next fall. Right now he is a captain in the Air Force in San Antonio. I gather from the mail we receive from them that both the service and Texas are getting on their nerves.

Skip Koolage is now a lecturer in anthropology at the Univ. of Manitoba in Winnipeg, after having spent five years as a graduate assistant at the Univ. of North Carolina. The North American Indian is his special field, and he hopes his new location will give him increased opportunities for research.

One last note—our best wishes go to Bob Blackman and his staff as they head off to Illinois. When his troops reach the Rose Bowl (and I have no doubts that his coaching talents will have them in Pasadena before too long) we can all get our vicarious thrill when the Fighting Mini run "student body right." Thanks for the memories, Bullet!

Happy days and Peace.
