The football season can always be counted on to produce crowds which in turn produce news, so I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Bob Blackman, Captain Randy Wallick, and the rest of the Big Green gridiron contingent for being the unknowing stimuli for this column. The Princeton and Harvard games were especially well attended by '65's, and, though the football results were nothing to cheer about, we managed to keep ourselves entertained and in good spirits for these festive occasions.
Princeton was the depths ... at least until Harvard, but we didn't let the score deter us. Hank and Debbie Amon were on hand. He is now sharpening his legal tools with White and Case in NYC, and bending his mind to produce bigger and better newsletters. Sitting with the Amons were Richand Sue Bloch and Paul and Cynthia Pringle the ex-Michigan Law School ag.
Right below us was Ted Bracken and his fiancee, Nancy Lieblich. He is a doctoral candidate at Columbia's School of Education and he finds both his work and NYC exciting.
The only bright spots between the Princeton and Harvard games were 1) a 48-0 romp over Brown, and 2) Pete Coker's first son. Pete and Sue announced the arrival of Peter Lee Jr. on October 21 — the only problem so far has been trying to find a pair of Converse sneakers to fit.
They really turned out for the Cambridge tilt this year, and again the Dartmouth Club at Harvard outdid itself in its Briggs Cage extravaganza. The price had increased over past years, but so had access to the bars and men's rooms, so the joint was really swingin'. The crowd included: Mike and Mary Buckley all the way from Rochester, N. Y., where Buck is playing lawyer after passing the N. Y. Bar. TuckyMays, one-time stunt man, ex-world traveler, and now a first year student at the Columbia B-School. Pvt. and Mrs. (Ann)Ted Atkinson, who had to leave a rather noisy affair at Your Father's Mustache early in order for him to make KP duty at Fort Devens by 5:00 A.M. Sunday.
Marsh Wallach, our man at Harvard Business School. Brad Dewey, now working for the Digital Equipment Corp. in Maynard, Mass. Rick Monahon, who had just returned from New Zealand sporting a tremendous and attractive beard. DickHorton, Larry Goldberger, and Tom Wise. Many others were on hand, and I beg them not to be offended if they don't see their names here. The list would be awfully long.
I'm still receiving news on late summer and fall weddings which I would like to pass on. In July Dick Thornley and Miss Mary Linda Conroy (Seton Hall) were married in Falls Church, Va. Alan Spitzer served as best man. Dick has served a stint for Uncle Sam in Germany and is now with Mutual Benefit Life Insurance Co. in Newark, N. J. They're living in Maplewood, N. J.
About a month later Steve Key and Miss Marie Sommer tied their knot in Scarsdale. She is a Green Mountain grad, and has also studied at Ohio State. Steve just received his MBA from Cornell in June and is now with Arthur Young and Co. in New York.
John Richardson has been in touch recently to assure me that Al Foley has agreed to be the guest speaker at our reunion dinner on Saturday, June 21. Should be one of the highlights of the weekend. Incidentally, John had just received word that he passed the N. J. Bar, but he's decided that "I'd make more as a garbage man in N. Y." — so don't be surprised wherever you see him.
I've run into Harris Saxon on several occasions this fall. He and Suzi are well situated in Cambridge - he as a second year student at Harvard Law, and she as the secretary of the Law Review there. Intellectual Boston is starting to rub off on Sax, and I expect anytime to hear that he has traded in his spurs and saddle for a three piece suit and a Country Squire — basically though the bronco busting charm and wit remain. After he gets his J.D. in June 1970 he will owe Uncle Sam a couple of years as he now holds the rank of ensign in the U.S. Naval Reserve with active duty delayed until he finishes school.
John Poole has recently been appointed to the position of Assistant Trust Officer with the State Street Bank and Trust Co. in Boston. He's also a student of business administration at B.U.
Another August wedding involved DougLeitch and Miss Barbara Taylor (Trenton State College). They were married in her hometown of Watchung, N. J. Doug is now scheduled for an Army hitch; he had been teaching at the junior high level for the past couple of years.
While we're on the military I should mention two other classmates. Chris Marston is an Army first lieutenant and is currently on duty in Viet Nam. Jon Hopkins has recently received a promotion to first lieutenant. He is the assistant adjutant at 7th Inventory Control Center in Karlsruhe, Germany.
The final wedding news for this issue is about Dick Corkey. He married Miss Barbara McCall earlier in the year and they are now living in Newton Centre, Mass., while he finishes up at Harvard Med. Barbara is also very interested in medicine and is presently doing biochemical research at Brandeis. She is a graduate of NYU and has been a research assistant at the Univ. of Pennsylvania.
That's about it from this corner. Those of you in the NYC area should keep in mind that Ab Oakes brings the Big Green hockey team to Madison Square Garden for the Holiday Festival Hockey Tourney late in December. Some good hockey and a chance to give the Indians some support.
Happy Holidays to all of you, your wives and families. The coming of the New Year means that reunion is only six months off - make plans.
