Another deadline has rolled around, and not a single letter from the whole class! If it wasn't for the Alumni Office's clipping services and the sheaf of notes Lou Young sent me on the backs of the class dues bills, your secretary would be out of business. How about doing something to correct this situation?
I had a pleasant surprise visit from my freshman roommate, Rich Fisher, and his bride, Marilyn, a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately, they were passing through New Hampshire from one appointment to another, and only had time for a short visit. Their youngest son, John, is enrolled in Hanover, so perhaps on a subsequent trip timing will be better. Rich is an officer in the real estate and insurance firm founded by his father, and has been active in alumni affairs and enrollment activities ever since the war.
Your secretary received an indirect query from a classmate (who shall remain nameless) wanting to know if we were having a reunion this June. For those of you who have been something less than constant followers of the "Bedford Blab," I will repeat here part of a column from early 1970:
"Believe it or not, the time has come to start thinking about our 30th reunion! Actually, it be our 31st, since the college has scheduled it for June, 1972. Steve Winship has accepted the invitation of the executive committee to be general chairman of the affair and is in the process of forming a committee to develop plans. Already forming the nucleus of this committee are prexy Bruce Friedlich, EdLarner, who has agreed to be treasurer, and Howie Wilson, who will handle publicity. Anyone having any ideas for items to be included in the program, or wishing to volunteer for service on the committee, should contact Steve at Box 108, Concord, N.H. 03301."
Colonel Phil Hallam retired from the U. S. Air Force last November after more than 29 years' service. The retirement ceremony took place at Gunter Air Force Base in Alabama where Phil had served as base commander prior to his retirement. Phil was commissioned through aviation cadet program in 1942 and served in the Southwest Pacific during World War 11. In 1955 he received his M.A. degree in education from Trinity College in Hartford. Conn. .
Bill Cashel seems to be breaking into print here with considerable regularity. Elected president of the Bell Telephone Company of Pennsylvania only a few months ago, word now comes that he has been elected to the Board of Trustees of the Philadelphia Savings Fund Society as of last December.
Ed Stone is still breeding and racing thoroughbreds. The third race at Lincoln Downs, R.I., last November 30 had more than it's share of excitement. First, a filly named "Hope for Kope" broke out of the post parade and did a fast quarter mile before being brought under control. Finally, the race got under way and the same horse decided to take a short cut, through the infield fence, throwing her jockey in the process, and headed for the parking lot. A little further down the track a longshot named "Finaway" stumbled and hit the deck, also throwing her rider. The other ten horses managed to finish the five furlongs, and when the mutual payoffs were finally posted Ed's "Meadows Manhattan" had won, and paid off at 7to 1.
Perfect timing! In today's mail was a note from Walt Lipman, enclosing news clipping about EdAnderbergr, who has just been named a partner in the Wall Street brokerage and investment firm of Shields & Co. Ed has been manager of the firm's White Plains. N.Y., office since 1966. This branch has 29 account executives and a staff of 45, and is moving into spacious new quarters this month. After graduation, Ed received an M.A. degree in economic geography from Columbia in 1942. He served as economist for the U.S. Tariff Commission from 1942 to 1945. and was economics attache at the American Embassy in China from 1945 until 1949. Following his service in China he served in a similar capacity in Japan, and was then named American Consul in Jamaica. British West Indies. He returned home in 1954 and went into the investment field, joining Shields & Co. shortly
That's it for another month. Please write! Send clippings! Anything!
