How do you write a column with the distractions of the launching of Apollo 14, the Knicks "tromping" the Bullets, and Gene Kelly catching giant perch, observing huge alligators and hippos in Lake Rudolph on "The American Sportsman"?
Eastman Birkett has become a member of the firm of Hale Russell and Stentzel of 122 East 42nd Street in New York City. "Easty Doughboy" graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law in 1949, following which he joined the law firm of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett that same year. He became a partner in 1961 and was still with that firm at the time of the 25th Reunion. "East" has been a very, very busy man during his professional career and has a great deal to offer any firm with which he should choose to become affiliated. Fortunate, we think, is Hale Russell & Stentzel.
Not everybody is aware of the outcome of the gubernatorial election in Maine, but now, for the benefit of those people, it can be told ... Attorney General James S. Erwin conceded his defeat just about one month ago after a recount which for him and supporters was unbearably close. Jim had asked for the recount before the polls closed on November 3 because the tight race ended with only 890 votes separating him from his opponent, Governor Kenneth M. Curtis. The final recount figures showed the Governor with 163,078 and Jim with 162,578—a 500-vote margin. Our classmate, however, was elected by the Republican majority in the new legislature for a third two-year term as attorney general. Some people can lose and still win.
It was not too many moons ago that David Heald gave something away ... not that he hasn't many times before ... but this time ... or come to think of it maybe he gained something. Well, anyway, recently his son, Edward, was married to Miss Sue Ann Hamilton, daughter of the ate Earl Hamilton and Mrs. Earl P. Hamilton. Son Edward, like his father, is an alumnus of good old Dartmouth and he is now with Burbank & Co. of Boston.
Rumsey Ewing has sold his old company and has decided that it is a good time to go into the brokerage business ... He has joined Reinholdt & Gardner in St. Louis. He thought "there would be no better way to go then into the bottom of a bear market."
