Secretary, 5839 S. Logan Ct., Littleton, Colo. 80121
There was record attendance on April 22 at Denver's Cosmopolitan Hotel—175 Colorado Dartmouth men, wives and guests— for the annual meeting and banquet of the Association of the Great Divide. Superb arrangements by Bob Halbert '59 and Don Shwayder '59, complete with a first-class combo.
President John Kemeny and his vivacious wife were warmly welcomed, along with the other members of the entourage: Robinson Bosworth Jr. '37, Chairman of we Alumni Fund; Addison Winship '42;Cliff Jordan '45; Hank Eberhardt '61;seth Strickland '60.
Dr. Kemeny's address was heartening. A challenge underscored with confidence and a Positive attitude. It was a declaration of Dartmouth's firm competitive position, en-hanced—of his own admission—by a president who keeps in touch by teaching.
Preceding Dr. Kemeny was a successful report from the enrollment committee's John Ratigan '61. Twenty-three Colorado candidates have been accepted, four of whom are early-acceptance. Hank Edler '53, reporting for the nominating committee, announced the slate of officers for the coming year, the election of same somehow happening simultaneously: Bob Montgomery '56, continuing as president of the association; Bob Halbert '59, vice-president: Don Jones '43, secretary; CaseyMcKibben '51, assistant secretary; BobJeavons '48, treasurer; Bruce Espey '40, assistant treasurer.
The featured presence of the Kemenys notwithstanding, it was Ev Parker's night-Everett H. Parker '16, stepping down as secretary. This signalled the commemoration of distinguished service to the College and to the Association, "... from 1916 to 1971." Ev Parker eloquently accepted a plaque presented by Association President Bob Montgomery.
Ceremony concluded, Ev Parker reactivated with force, promoting the Alumni College and exhorting any and all to join him next summer in Hanover.
Obviously bothered, however, that someone might identify him with the oldest class imaginable in the gathering that night, Ev Parker suddenly pointed out and exclaimed, "There's someone who was a senior when I was a freshman!" Thus Dr. Don Cunningham '13 was singled out for his just share of recognition. So the annual banquet, aptly conducted by President Montgomery, was adjourned. A successful, rewarding event.
Two more events are coming up. A luncheon May 28 at the Quality Motel will feature Denver's own Cedric Foster '24, internationally known news commentator. A new kind of headliner is scheduled for June 13. A garden party—tent and all—at the spacious home of Mr. and Mrs. RickRickenbaugh '28, honoring the undergraduates, the upcoming freshmen and their parents, and hopefully another record crowd of alumni and wives.
