Last flash on the 1972 POW WOW!
Tom Jones and his committee report that by the end of December 32 classmates had indicated they would attend. This does not include wives, children, friends, and folks from other classes who will gather on March 14 at The Sheraton, Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Maybe the committee will get an astronaut to blast off from Cape Kennedy and have free passes to Disney World, both nearby.
Lester Granger spent time in the hospital and is now home getting energy to finish his trip of last fall which was interrupted by illness. He has ended his college teaching which he so greatly enjoyed. Trust he will now be able to complete his book of memories. With his charm of writing and his most constructive life, it will make informative and fascinating reading.
Peg and Dwight Sargent used the holiday to visit relatives and friends. Al Gottschaldt's grandson, Teddy Pratt, received early admission to the College for this fall's freshman class. How many of your family does that make, Al? Marianand Dick White by now must be settled in their new house at 3215 Ludham Drive. Silver Spring, Md. 20906, leaving Washington after 33 years because of age, taxes, and crime. Seems our metropolitan areas must plan low and middle-income housing in the suburbs to create better integration thus having people live as neighbors for better social understanding. School bussing as presently used only confirms this, but is not the solution.
In December, at the New York University Club, Syl Morey entertained the old guard of Bill Towler '13, Sig Larmon '14. Charlie Comiskey '16. Jib Dingwall '16. Steve Mahoney '18 and Jules VanRaalte '18. This must have been Syl's farewell to the city for he and Minetta will winter at Naples, Fla., give up their Park Avenue apartment, and make Great Barrington home base.
Gene and Russ Howard are at Apartment 824, 905 North Ocean Boulevard Pompano Beach, Fla., for the winter. Hitty and Read Montgomery are wintering at Dearfield Beach, Fla.
Sorry to report Elizabeth Balder widow of Raymond, is deceased. ConstanceProctor, widow of Tom, and RikaNorton, widow of Ralph, continue to reside in the homes they happily shared with their husbands. Trust both will be with us in 1973 at our 55th Reunion.
Tom Jones writes it is shirtsleeve weather in Florida, which assures spring or summer climate for all at the March Pow Wow. Details of this gala gathering will appear in the May column. May it inspire all throughout the year to send Jake Bingham of the "Roar" and this scribe news of 1918ers. Here's cheers to all at Pow Wow.
