Breathes there the man with soul so dead Who never to himself hath said This is my own, my beloved Class With apologies to Sir Walter Scott, we submit, duly condensed, the monthly news:
John Thompson is hesitant about attending reunion, believing that a shave and a haircut might create endless consternation in the sacred precincts. He adds, "The Smith brothers, 'Trade' and 'Mark' could have made it."
Margaret and Crosby Hoar report good health. Crosby recalls that Prof. "Georgie D." Lord knelt under his desk and, holding a waste-basket, showed how the Greeks made their votive offerings. Our own late Albert Chandler commented at the time that "Georgie D." would make a good actor. Claire (Mrs. Phil) Thompson reports much gardening, some travelling, including a stay at her brother's home to help during his illness. Julist (Mrs.Arthur) Soule anticipates two marriages of grandchildren this summer. She expects, also, to make a two weeks trip to London.
Henry Emery is doing well on his artificial leg, but does not roam about outdoors. His son, having heart trouble, was fitted with a plastic valve successfully. George Lowe works hard at shuffleboard, three days a week, but a touch of asthma has halted his golf temporarily. He tells of a day's bus trip, with 45 aboard, to Disney Land in Florida. Great fun! Stacy Irish was a patient in Evanston Hospital in January. Wife Bernice kept the home fires burning. Bert Thwing suffered a slight stroke last summer, which thoughtfully bypassed his locomotion, for he gets a walk every day. Bert is now living in a comfortable home at 323, Victoria Avenue, St. Lambert, Quebec.
Earl Wiley is recovering from a hernia operation and doing well. Art Wyman reports a session at Salem Hospital for some interior repairs, "no carving," he adds. Esther (Mrs. Gordon) Blanchard has had a bad fall, but at last writing she is able to get around a bit with the aid of nurses. She sends best wishes to all. All, in turn, send the same to you, Esther.
Allen Perkins has moved to an apartment house where he "Doesn't rattle around so much," at address, The Prospect 400, La Jolla, Cal. 92037. Allen and ChickCurrier meet often. Cheery good wishes come to all from Chick Currier and RogerHill.
New address: Mrs. Arthur Sides, 40 Potter, Box 262, Stratford, Conn. 06497.
Word has been received of the death of Mary (Mrs. Scott) Mann in Feburary at Woodsville, N. H.
So much for what has been. Now for what will be: First, the Alumni Fund will have started under the leadership of John Hinman, when you read this. We are now 40 strong, plus the ladies. Let's make this a 100% participation, each according to his judgement; Second, a few preliminary intentions to attend our 65th have arrived. Keep June, '73 in mind and you won't make a mistake.
