In deep sadness, we have learned of the passing of our beloved president, Roland EdwardChesley, on February 27, in Faxton Hospital, Utica, N.Y., which he entered February 4, for extensive examinations. A complete obituary will be found in a later issue.
And Naught-eighters, and many another, will be surprised and shocked to learn of the sudden accidental death of Joseph Leland Richardson, affectionately known as "Kid," on November 17, 1973. As Florence Marie, his widow remarked. "I have never known, or heard of, him having a single day of illness." Through the medium of this column, Kid's classmates convey to Mrs. Richardson their profound sympathy. A complete obituary will be found on another page of this or a later number. Word has been received of the death of Sydney Lee Ruggles, on January 21, 1974, at Danbury (Conn.) Hospital, after many years of ill health.
Mail, this month, has been surprisingly heavy, the call for dues most satisfactory. GuyBlodgett has the honor of being the first to reply. Allen Perkins is ready to help to keep 'OB going. He may have chosen the proper time, we shall see. Walter Furman, source of wisdom, declares; "The best news, at our ages, is no news at all."
A few words from our disabled: Esther (Mrs. Gordon) Blanchard has moved to the nursing wing of her apartment building, and is reported by her daughter, Mrs. Donald Adams, to be very weak and losing her senses. Lish Winslow spent two months at home, but returned to the hospital with a broken hip, now slowly improving. Henry Emery reports a delightful birthday, January, 27, with all descendents present. John Thompson has turned the corner healthwise and feels better, stronger, and has gained weight. Welcome, John, to the 'Stalwarts.' Ted Barnes is obeying his orders to rest quietly at home. There's no place like home.
A few remarks from our ladies: Mrs. ArthurAnderson has a lot of praise for the Magazine:Thelma Lowe, reported a thrilling freighter trip to the Indies; Helen Goodheart (formerly Mrs. Marsden) taking care of a cat at absentee home in Florida: Juliet Soule on her way to make the acquaintance of a new great-granddaughter on February 10. And so it goes. John Treadway says "Dad sends his best. He is pretty well."
