April Fool's Day, Easter Eve—This has been a perfect day sustaining its ancient superstitious hex by confounding the weather bureau's snow predictions and fooling its experts. Writing class notes, due on the 2nd, Easter Sunday, was more than my springfevered discipline could absorb, so they will go out with Monday's wash on the air line.
Hanover and N H. Jottings—From Bob Monahan, columnist for the Granite State Gazette in "Off Main Street" featuring Bob's visit to Shasta Dam guiding Senator Carl Hay den, Ariz.: and Bob's tribute to the 94 year-old veteran of 56 years' service m Congress. The column was reproduced in The Congressional Record. We were sorry to learn of Dr, Frank Foster's recent operation at New England Baptist Hospital and we hope that he is making a good recovery therefrom. Hanover is fortunate to have him in residence and the Gazette to print the first of what its editor hopes will be a series of articles on "Medical Topics."
Politics has been hot in N. H. this past month and '29ers have been swept up in its groundswell. Ex Berlin Mayor Art Bergeron has won a hotly contested seat on the City Council. Trunkie Brittan has been appointed treasurer and pitched in to help Lane Dwinell carry N. H. for Nixon. Frances Dudley, wife of Charles M. is pictured in Valley News with other members of Valley Housing Authority.
Jack Hubbard's returns from his bird dogging treasurer's bills has sent us much grist for class note news. Carter Strickland has moved to Charlotte, N. C., 5945F Quail Hill Appts; Quail Hollow Road, 28210. Tel. 704-364-9290. He is lining up several companies he hopes to represent as "a Manufacturer's Rep." Joe Q'Leary pleads guilty to burdening the treasurer with two dues checks; and declining to accept a return of either, donates one to Memorial Book Fund in memory of his Cambridge roommate "Willsie Brisbin" if by chance lie has not been remembered and if so, for some other classmates not yet so commemorated. Thanks Joe, it recalls many happy memories of those post crash days. Joint Ball writes of his retirement and enjoyment of the pasture life from his V.P. and Col. of USAFR, 26 year service.
A tetter from George E. Kennedy, Sarasota, Fla. contains a fine color picture of him with Pres. Kemeny taken when the latter spoke to the Sarasota D. Club luncheon recently on "The College ToDay." "Red now white," as he signs himself, has been club president for two years. The picture sustains his name exchanged for fame.
A letter from Gas Wiedenmayer states as follows: "When you surprised me so pleasantly last week by stopping in my office, I promised to reciprocate with a few notes for your column: Following the Princeton game last fall Jack Ackley and Dick Burke and their wives relumed to my home for dinner and a little celebration, during the course of it I suggested to Dick and Mary Burke that it would be awfully nice if they would invite us all to their aerie in Bequia which is in the Grenadines. They invited us forthwith and we accepted, and in fact we called George Case in Cleveland and he and Kay accepted with alacrity. Being a gentleman, Dick confirmed the invitation by letter and being a forthright soul he made it clear that the eagle's nest was 150 rocky steps above the shore. That scared off Kay Case (bad back) and Jack Ackley (bad back). I suggested that their spouses come without them. They said they were either too young or too old for that sort of thing. Being considerably younger, Peggy and I went through with the plan and a delightful stay with the Burkes, although this time they failed to put on a spouting whale exhibition and subsequent harpooning as they did two years ago."
I dislike ending on a sad note brought by this morning's mail. This was from Cy Worth in Houston and contained the death notice of Harlan Taylor on March 28.
