Just back from Class Officers Weekend, an annual pilgrimage which I have looked forward to, and it usually produces a little news of classmates. Attending the actual meeting were Paul Urion, president, GusSouthworth, treasurer, Bob Manegold, the bequest chairman, Gil Tanis representing the executive committee and myself as secretary. We mainly concerned ourselves with reports drawn up by Southworth showing the giving record of classmates over the years. As Paul kept saying, this is probably the time of our life when we are best able to give and also a time when it means most to the College. We can all expect to hear from a class agent in the coming weeks.
In the interest of building up more solidarity and class spirit it was suggested that we have a sort of mini reunion at a home football game in the fall. This was tried last year with rather disappointing results. However it certainly seems worth another try.
I saw Bob Boss over the weekend. His wife Mary is working at the Dartmouth Alumni magazine and he has been in the Hanover area for over a year undergoing eye surgery. He's coming along nicely and the temporary eye patch gives him an air of distinction. Although John Emerson is still not back in Hanover, the ordeal of his complex operation is over and we hope to see him walking around the campus before long. He is having a long stay at Mass. General Hospital where he's undergoing special therapy. It is reported that his recovery is advanced as far as therapeutic swimming and he's bearing up well.
From Bob Manegrold I learned that Dr. Charles J. Mock has a very successful surgery practice in Minnesota and is in the habit of taking vacation trips in the warm islands with the whole family. In the past he has made other family trips to Alaska and Europe. I remember him from freshman year on an Outing Club camping trip. I guess he never outgrew his "chubber" instincts.
I have some word on Fred Wagner that I picked up from Paul Urion. In the 25th reunion class directory he stated that he had made a home in New Hampshire and was collecting timberland. Paul, who should know, says that he probably owns as much of New Hampshire as any other individual at this time. I'm not giving away secrets as this is a matter of public record. I also had news of Jim Briggs who enjoys a leisurely existance in Damariscotta, Maine. It is so leisurely he has agreed to take over my job as class secretary as I just seem too busy to generate the correspondence necessary to the gathering of news. If some of you would drop a line once in a while to the secretary it would please the rest of the class and make the secretary's job a lot easier.
I learned from Gil Tanis that DaveBradley is now teaching at Tuck School. I had the good fortune to room near Dave in New Hamp and he sure fits the definition of Renaissance Man. He did very fine water colors, was on the ski team, and played an old fashioned organ he had in his room. Since then, of course he has had separate careers as doctor, author and now teacher.
