The month of March was short on days and sadly short on news of classmates. Irving Trust Company, of New York, provides us with another release. Last month it was the announcement that Fred Baker had been appointed Division Administrative Officer and this month we receive news of Hamilton B. Mitchell, under dateline of January 28.

"Hamilton B. Mitchell, president and chief executive officer of Dun & Bradstreet, Inc., has been elected to the board of directors of Irving Trust Company, it was announced today by George A. Murphy, chairman.

"Mr. Mitchell, 53, has served in his current post with Dun & Bradstreet since October, 1968. Prior to that time, he was president and principal executive officer of the Reuben H. Donnelly Corporation from 1966 to 1968, and president and chief operating officer from 1961-1966.

"A graduate of Dartmouth College, Mr. Mitchell joined Reuben H. Donnelly in 1939 as a sales trainee. He was named vice president and eastern manager of Donnelly's marketing activities in 1954 and became president in 1961, the year that Donnelly was merged into Dun & Bradstreet, Inc.

"He is a director of Dun & Bradstreet, Inc. and the Reuben H. Donnelly Corporation, and serves as a trustee of the National Recreation and Park Association. He is also chairman of the Committee on Postal Policy of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

"Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell have three sons and reside in Rye, N.Y."

The Henry C. Beck Company was mentioned in a recent copy of the New York Times as one of several important building firms developing mass production methods of constructing apartment houses. I'll probably receive more details from the Records Office.

I have undertaken a survey of the class relative to the various businesses and professions and so far as I have gone I can report as follows:

Fifty-one members of the class became lawyers; 43 became doctors and we have five ministers. In the field of education there are 36 including college instructors and professors, secondary school teachers, and administrators in educational institutions. There are 36 in the insurance business and sixteen in government work. Twenty are classified as in the food business including Jerry Tosi who distributes wine and liquor and Pat Gorman who is with Schlitz. Five are in the hotel business; there are thirteen farmers not including Bob Forgan who operated a trout farm and there is at least one schooner captain. My further research will reveal the number of bankers, advertising men, welfare workers, publishers, and those in the fields of construction, chemicals, creative arts, and armed services.
