Another fall, another column and welcome back to all '45s.
From Beirut, Lebanon, comes a newsy letter from John Foster "I re-established residence in Beirut in Sept. '71 with the start-up of Foster and associates, my own firm which operates largely in geology and geophysics over a hugh piece of territory. Current work extends from the Greek islands to Libya and the Arabian Gulf. It seems we are the only geological company in the region which concentrates on resources outside the oil industry. Our most active field is down-the-hole geophysics-electric, gamma ray and neutron logging services. We also represent the middle east interests of several distinguished American companies in the geo and oceanographic sciences. Beirut is the charm city and a marvelous place to live-at least 5500 Americans who live here think so, despite occasional tension. Unfortunately we live in a delicate spot near the airport and suffered some damage during the flare-up in May-aside from broken windows as a result of gunfire, a 50 caliber armor piercing bullet hit a toilet. You should see what happens to porcelain fixtures! All's quiet now and 45ers are always welcome at our house, a beautiful haven far away from home."
Paul Muller has been named treasurer and a member of the senior management group of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation, the government corporation which insures and finances U.S. private investments in developing countries. Paul, in the past, had been vice president and treasurer of Young and Rubicam, and most recently was director of the New York office of November Group, Inc., the advertising agency created to handle all campaign advertising and promotion related to the reelection of President Nixon. Paul, Pat, and their four daughters live in New Canaan, Conn.
Hitting the national magazines too late to make the June column were two items of interest to 455. TomCandler's daughter Pam was quoted in a SportsIllustrated three-part article dealing with discrimination against women athletes. Pam, a high school senior at the time, was the Michigan girls' trampoline champion and runner-up in the state tennis championships.
