In late January Mr. and Mrs. Earl J. Thomson Jr. announced the marriage of their mother Mrs. Anne Cookman Thomson to Mr. Earl Wentworth Thomson senior professor emeritus of the U.S. Naval Academy The members of the Class will rejoice at this happy Earl W. took his master's degree in phusics with the Class of 1915 at Dartmouth. 'He has been a widower for several years. When Tommy and Anne went to Annapolis to live they bought a lot and built a home next door to the Earl Wentworth Thomsons. There began a close friendship between the two men and their respective families. Each having lost their respective spouses, it seems only natural that these two people, Anne and Earl, should join hands and hearts to continue life together at Vista Campana North, Oceanside, Calif. 92054. Congratulations, Anne and Earl. Welcome into the Class of 1920, Earl.
Jim and Martha Daniell desert Green Bay, Wis., for San Diego in the winter to escape the cold and especially to enjoy visiting with their two California children.
At long last a message from Charlie Ashton from Waverly, Ohio, requesting a slight change in address from 314 Wendy Lane to 610 Bridge St. The zip code is 45690.
A "Lion Country Safari" educational tour under the auspices of Mel Merritt was under-taken recently by Charlie McGoughran. They saw lions, elephants, and ostriches, galore! All in the great State of Florida.
Dean Travis at Bozeman, Mon., complains that the low water in his country in the late summer put a damper on the usual good trout fishing. His latest interest has been the promotion of a chapter of Ducks Unlimited in his area.
Writing of trout recalls that Al Frey stocked his pond with trout last summer down on the farm in Dresden, Me. So far no trout have yet been seen and Al wonders if they have strayed as far as Arizona's Salt River. Come spring - and spring does come to Dresden about the middle of June - watch for those tell-tale rises, Al. Your trout have just been "getting acquainted." - "aquatic bundlin."
Gro Plowman reports the purchase of a new electric exercise bicycle, his fourth in the last 15 years. From this machine he hopes to get the equivalent of five years of jogging without the street hazards.
Hank Spero reports that his granddaughter Lisa Newman left her home in Portland, Ore., in her bluejeans to enter her father's alma mater in New Haven. With a bit of pride Henry expects her to give a good account of herself at Yale, for she is both bright and beautiful. From Santa Barbara Al Steinbrecher writes that he regrets that the radio antennae on Wilder Hall have come down and recollects his "working" the College several times on 10-15-20 meters from - Arizona. This sounds like ham radio jargon to me, Al. Do you keep in touch with senator Barry Goldwater these days? He is Anzona's foremost operator with world-wide connections.
Charlie Goodnow, also from Santa Barbara, writes of his driving through Arizona in the spring of 1973 to see the profusion of desert flowers which nature provided so generously due to the greater than usual rainfall. Charlie, by the way, has three children and seven grandchildren all in the California area.
Forby Forbush in Pasadena writes that he is no longer working for the city due to impairment of vision.
Tom Carpenter wrote feelingly of the loss of Roy Rubel to the Jupiter-Tequesta community, Fla. The Rubels and the Carpenters were good friends and near neighbors.
It is with regret that we record belatedly the passing of Florabel Chamberlain, Warrie's partner.
Sherry Baketel informs me that in her will Robin Pearson, widow of our late secretary DickPearson, had made a bequest of $1000 to Baker Library to support its programs. What a fine memorial by a loyal wife to her husband whose life was devoted to books! In January 1974 the advent of Stephanie Elizabeth Leonards - a "very cute young lady," in the words of an admirer, made Sherry a great-granddaddy!
Back in October Cy Roundsville wrote "Looks like the Big Green isn't too big this year." And resignedly he added "Oh, well. Can't win them all." Somehow Jake Crouthamel must have received this message and immediately he set out to disprove it.
Walk Fielding, who lives in Heritage Village, Southbury, Conn., along with many another Dartmouth man, including our own Tink Lombard, has invited Al Frey to get off at Exit 15 on 1-84 should he be passing that way and visit the Fielding establishment.
Adios, amigos!
