As we begin these notes, we cannot dispel the thought that we are yet in a period of mourning for our departed president, Pop Chesley. This period will continue until his burial in the cemetery at Rochester, N.H., about two weeks, plus or minus, from May 1. We are promised ample notice. Charlie and Mrs. Walker will represent the Class at the interment ceremonies.
Looking toward the future, fortunately we face no difficult problem. We have a secretary, a treasurer and an assistant treasurer, an Alumni Fund agent, newsletter editor, and bequest chairman. The job of president, if we really need a president, could well be handled by one of the other officers. It is interesting to note that every class from '02 to '11 inclusive has at least one plural officer. We cannot read the future, but we can prepare to meet it when it comes. Thanks to the classmates who have written on this subject
Eleanor S. (Mrs. Edward P.) Bartlett, of Belchertown, Mass., who is spending the winter in Claremont, Calif., until April, has this timely message to help: "I marvel at the longevity of the good old '08ers. There is more than a trace of granite in their makeup." Thank you. Eleanor.
We have a new address for Dorothea (Mrs.George E.) Squier. It is 8 Elm Street, Bristol, Vt. 05443. Mrs. Lucy F. Bishop, of Windsor. Vt., sister of Syd Ruggles, adds a few facts to Syd's biography.
Having completed the draft of these notes, we received by mail a letter from Utica, enclosing a copy of the latest Institute program, the last to which Pop had contributed his talent. It is truly amazing. It speaks of Pop's personal acquaintance with 2,000 subscribers, all of whom he knew by name. Also, that the Institute sent to the Dartmouth Library a diary which Pop kept at Hanover, and some pictures. Then we learn that Pop's Scotty dog "Bonnie" has found a new home and seems to be satisfied.
