Somehow the mailman doesn't seem to be leaving large bags of '36 news in our mailbox but we do have a few items to pass along starting with a brief note from Ed Drechsel, who lives in Berkeley and works in San Francisco for U.S.News and World Report as regional editor. Ed reports that things are about the same with him except he and Ilena lost most of their silver, jewelry, etc. when their home was burglarized. They lost entire drawers with all their contents. He advises those living in metropolitan areas to take precautions even though it involves extra effort because losing irreplaceable family things is a traumatic shock. I agree with Ed on taking precautions we have, since there have been five houses entered within one mile of us since last Thanksgiving.

Ed sent a clipping concerning SumnerBurrows, who also lives in San Francisco and who is executive vice president of Hass Brothers, a wholesale liquor firm. The company was celebrating the production of case #2,500,000 of its own brand of vodka sold under the very non-Russian name of Royal Gate. Sumner was quoted "This is a milestone considering that our first production was 400 cases and it took us the better part of a year to sell them. If we'd known it was going to be important we probably would have researched a Russian name."

A January column in The New York Times entitled "How Those With Money Are Trying To Hang On To It" quotes, among others, a classmate who hasn't been heard from in recent years Jack Matzinger who operates the Ascot Shop in La Jolla, Calif. Jack has quit investing in the stock market and real estate and instead is applying the profits to the growth of his business, so he escapes the inflationary costs of bank borrowing, while simultaneously reducing his personal income tax. "With inflation growing at the rate of 10 to 12% a year and my sales increasing at around 17%, I am not only able to stay ahead of inflation in protecting my personal assets, but netting an additional 5% on the money I formerly took out of the business," he said.

Sanders Associates, Inc., a Nashua, N.H., manufacturer of electronic equipment is one of the most recent companies to file suit against 1.8.M. and Sanders lawyer, Joe Millimet of Manchester will represent them in their attempt to get relief and damages of $85-million from 1.8.M.

Mrs. Jonathan Vick won the 1974 Kodak International Newspaper Snapshot Award which had a prize of $5,000. The winning picture is of a small girl feeding three horses lowering their heads toward her over a fence. The little girl is Cecelia Vick and the horses are on the farm of her grandfather, John A. Sawyer in Penfield N.Y. John and Nancy live in Darien, Conn., and Mrs. Vick (nee Margaret Sawyer) now lives in Africa where her husband has been transferred.

We noticed an announcement of the engagement of Dr. Douglas Robertson's son James to Stella Miller. Both Doug and his wife Ruth practice obstetrics and gynecology in nearby Mt. Kisco, N.Y. James is currently spending his third season in the Antarctic with the Ross Ice Shelf Team of the University of Wisconsin.

I was pleased to have a card from Florida from Henry Woods, better known as Bern. He retired last June after many years of teaching languages and coaching skiing in a number of well-known prep schools around the country. Most recently he had lived in Hanover and taught at the Cardigan Mountain school in Canaan, N.H. Bern and Jean spent most of last summer helping son Bill '64 move and get settled in Kansas where Bill is teaching at Wichita State U. They then took off in December in their camper and have been cruising the south, mostly Florida, this winter enjoying the almost constant sunshine. He doesn't say where they might settle or whether they plan to continue travelling for awhile but perhaps he will call on some classmates as he goes around.

I hope all of you will keep in mind the various class get-togethers that are scheduled as follows:

May 2-3, Class Officers meeting in Hanover, Our class will have cocktails and dinner at the D.O.C. club (dutch) Saturday after the college meetings are over. Everyone welcome, let us know for reservations.

August 2, lobster picnic in Maine.

October 10-12, executive committee meeting at Stone End Lodge, Sunapee. Dart-Penn weekend. Everyone welcome. They all include wives. Reservations to Ray Builter or me.
