Alumni Fund Drives have a way of bringing classmates together by mail, phone, and in person - a great time of year to catch up on people, to ponder the past and future of ourselves and Dartmouth. It is also a time for us to consider our part in supporting the continuing quality of education and the physical attributes of Dartmouth.

Buddy Noel, who sports an MBA from Tuck and law degree from Harvard, has been appointed by Gov. Lamm of Colorado to the State Board of Agriculture, the governing board of Colorado State University. Buddy has been practicing with the law firm of Holme, Roberts, and Owen in Denver. A rather incredible list of activities outside his job, finds Buddy a member of the State Rules Committee, the State Equal Rights Committee of the Democratic Party, and on the board of directors of the Denver Metropolitan Legal Society, and the New Dance Theater, Inc. . . . whew!

In Beantown, we celebrated the Persian New Year (March) at a party, thrown by architect Jeff Pond '66, in a surrounding of Persian artifacts gathered by Jeff in the Peace Corps. John Pilling, also an architect, was there with his wife Francine Pennino (who will retain her maiden name). Francine is in the real estate business here, and the Pilling/Pennino pact pointed out Dick Eberhardt, who was so deeply engrossed in conversation, I chose not to interrupt him. John assured me that Dick continues to be an expert on "life." Also in Boston, Dr. Mark Utell reports that he tied the knot in June '72 with Lois Brooks (Ithaca College), and will be moving to Rochester, New York, next month, to begin a Pulmonary Disease Fellowship at Strong Memorial Hospital.

George Spivey has a list of duties a mile long, as Dean of Students at Richard Stockton State College, Pomona, N.J. He also has been appointed to Juvenile Conference Committee which hears minor cases of first offenders, directed to it by Atlantic County Judge Herbert S. Jacobs (also a Dartmouth man). George was wondering if any of his undergraduate study in Government would be helpful to him in campaigning for a Township Committee position . . . how did the primary go? He also would like to hear from any of the old Gile folks and Chi Phi's, proffers Congrats to Jeff Hinman, reports that James "Jimmy" Johnson is an editorial writer for the Philadelphia Evening Bulletin and teaches a journalism course at Temple University, while residing in Germantown, Pa.

I had a most fascinating letter from Yoshihiro Nakamura reminiscent of "though round the girdled earth they roam . . . Yoshi is in the diplomatic service of Japan, and in a division which handles many aspects of multinational resource diplomacy, his job having brought him to some 20 conferences around the world, pertinent to natural resources. Yoshi is in the Economic Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the words he used in speaking of oil problems and "stagflation" rang a familiar note as well as his insights as to the political difficulties in Japan, and the relationship between Japan and the United States. I am sure we will all agree that these two countries should always work closely together, Yoshi . . . We'll do what we can at this end of the globe. Have you been to the Hotel Okura in Amsterdam? Run by the Japanese, it has to be the finest hotel in the city. I personally recommend it to anyone on business there.

Raise funds and have fun.
