Our hearty congratulations go to Guy Van Syckle, who was installed on May 1 as the new president of the Connecticut State Medical Society. After graduation from Dartmouth Guy attended Dartmouth Medical School and received his M.D. from Cornell in 1948. After interning and residency training in Hartford and St. Louis, he served as an assistant in Radiology at Washington University, St. Louis, for three years, and from 1955 to 1956 was an instructor of Radiology at Yale. He was a lieutenant in the Navy Medical Corps from 1950 to 1952, and is presently Attending Radiologist at Danbury Hospital and Assistant Radiologist at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
By the time you read this around the end of June, the GTHES will have changed its name slightly to the Greatest Thirtieth Hanover Ever Saw. At time of writing, the announcements from Growler Jack Whitman, Reg and NancyPierce, and Jim Barnet are still in, listing the hundreds of classmates, wives and offspring planning to attend. The September issue of the Alumni Magazine will, of course, carry a full report.
The question of the month is whether any '46s other than Rick Shambroom are likely to have a child who will be in the class of 2000 at Dartmouth. At last reports, Betty Shambroom intended to arrive at Reunion several months prior to the expected delivery of a child, and with a delay of a year or two in the course of education, 2000 will be the graduation date. Anyone wishing to contest that title should drop me a line and I will be happy to send a copy of the latest projected rates for tuition at Ivy League colleges in the next century.
At a recent meeting of the Norwalk (Connecticut) Bar Association, our Warren Kealey was elected treasurer of that august organization. Warren attended Georgetown and University of Connecticut Law Schools after graduation and has practiced in Norwalk since 1951. He, Alberta, and their four children live on Eugene Drive there.
How many of you still get regular use out of the magnificent book of our class, concocted by Doug Leigh and Reg Pierce for our 25th Reunion four years ago? Your secretary finds it to be absolutely invaluable, constantly interesting, and a perfect conversation piece for friends who never appreciated what a great class can accomplish.
Having mentioned one Norwalk resident, we must not overlook Bob Winstanley, vice president of Connecticut Bank & Trust Company, who has been on the speaker's circuit in that area, principally with the topic of "banking and public opinion." Bob acquired 13 years of experience with National Cash Register Company, with emphasis on bank systems, and is a past president of the Norwalk Executives Club.
We were delighted to receive a letter recently from Bob Heussler, a professor of history at the State University of New York in Geneseo. Its been much too long since we saw you, Bob, and your secretary well recalls some happy occasions on the third floor of Middle Mass. in 1942 with Frank Cole and others.
In a recent issue, we had the sad duty of reporting the death of Bill Broughton. We have now been advised that the new address of Mrs. Broughton, to whom some of you may wish to write, is 17 Bromley Drive, Farm Cove, Parkuranga, New Zealand.
As mentioned above, by the time you read this, our Reunion will be over, and your secretary will have discovered that many of you have become so fat and wrinkled that they don't recognize me. The Reunion report in the September issue will, of course, include a list of new officers, including the lucky fellow who will be your secretary, and for whom I could make no happier wish than that he enjoyeth as much as I have.
