A number of items have accumulated for this column during the summer months so I am afraid that some of them may be a little out of date. I hope all of you had a good summer and are prepared to send your secretary news of yourself throughout the year so the '45 class notes can be well represented in each issue of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE.

One item received last May right after copy for the June issue was mailed, came from CK Communications, Inc. The "C" is PaulCaravatt and the "K", Rory Kaplan, both of whom had been running Caravatt, Kleiman Inc. as a video software subsidiary of Advanced Systems Inc. CK Communications Inc. will carry on a three-phase Business. They win oner clients consulting and supervisory services for corporate and other non-broadcast audio-visual programming (this includes new product introduction and employee training), production, distribution, and impact measurement of such programming. They will also design, create, and operate proprietary communications networks.

Fred Berthold, the Preston Kelsey Professor of Religion at Dartmouth, has been named associate dean of the faculty of arts and sciences for the humanities. He assumed his duties on September 1. Fred earned a B.D. degree from the Chicago Theological Seminary in 1947 and a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1954. He joined the Dartmouth faculty as an instructor in philosophy in 1949, shifted to the religion department in 1950, was made an assistant professor in 1951, and a full professor in 1956. He was named to the Kelsey chair in 1971.

Richard Owen, a federal judge of New York's Second Circuit, is also a composer. His latest work is an opera Mary Dyer that concerns a Quaker lady who was hanged in Boston around 1660 for defying the puritannical Governor Endicott. The opera was given its world premiere last July at Rockland Community College in Suffern, N.Y. It received very favorable reviews, not only for the music and singing of the cast, but also for the leading role, sung beautifully by Dick's wife, Met soprano Lynn Owen.

Robert M. Schaeberle, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Nabisco Inc. and a member of the Pace advisory council, was unanimously elected a trustee of Pace University, White Plains, N.Y. A director of Nabisco and a member of its executive committee, he is also a member of executive boards and advisory councils of a number of business and financial organizations.

Our new class agent John E. Leggat was elected chairman, board of trustees of the Lowell General Hospital, Lowell, Mass., succeeding Jefferson R. Mansfield Jr. '49, whose untimely death in March was reported in the June ALUMNI MAGAZINE John has been active as clerk for the past five years and prior to that as corporator of the hospital. He is a board member of many charitable institutions including Merrimack Valley United Fund, the clerk of the Central Savings Bank in Lowell, past president of the Lowell Bar Association. John lives in Westford with his wife Ruth and their sons, John Jr. and Bruce. He also serves as town moderator and chairman of the Westford school board.

Last minute reminder: fall class executive meeting and mini-reunion, weekend of October 29-31 at Hanover. Executive committee meeting (all classmates welcome to attend), Friday, 2:30 p.m., 301 Parkhurst . On Saturday, lunch at the Tom Dent Cabin, football against Columbia at 1:30 p.m. (you should have already sent in your ticket orders), and dinner at the Outing Club.
