After a very severe winter in the East, we seem to be emerging into a very delightful spring; and with the warmer weather there is an increase in the slow trickle of news from classmates. I hope that this trickle will develop into a much larger flow, and ensure the regular continuation of this column.
Word has come that Dr. Robert G. Nelb has been named technical director for Bailey Division, USM Corporation. Eliot Mover kindly passed along some news of Lee "Jim" Kreindler who is most prominent in the field of aviation negligence litigation. He is now involved in a case that many legal experts believe will become a landmark in aviation negligence law. This involves the crash of a Turkish Airlines DC-10 near Paris three years ago in which 346 persons aboard were killed when a cargo door blew off, crippling the controls and plunging the aircraft to the ground. Jim is handling 48 of the 56 punitive cases for the plaintiffs and, among those arguing for the other side is the lawyer who represented former President Nixon in the first lawsuit over the White House tapes.
I talked recently with Moe Frye who advised me that John MacDonald, owner of the Yarmouth Boatyard in Yarmouth, Maine, spent the night with the Fryes recently when he came to Boston to visit the Boat Show. Moe also attended the Dartmouth-Harvard hockey game and saw a number of classmates there, including Steve Hull, chairman of our upcoming 35th reunion, his son Christopher, and Shorty andAllon Pierce.
Sam Cutler reports that he will be in Cape Breton on the Upper Washabucht for most of July and August and can be located there for anyone wishing to venture that far. His son Andy '78 was acting as assistant director of development for Middlesex School last summer.
Keep the news coming and I promise you that it will be faithfully reported.
