I have survived my first month here at the University of Michigan. As a "freshman" I have not been required to wear a beanie. Nor have I had to carry anyone's furniture - but my own. No dorm counselor is around to indoctrinate me. The food is homecooked. I've even managed to ignore the nation's number one football team. My only complaint is that there isn't enough time to do all that I want to in the nine months allotted me. In future issues" I'll touch on how it feels to go back to school - to pursue what we knew 17 falls ago as "intellectual curiosity."
Otherwise, this is going to be an abbreviated column. Following October's lengthy report, I have only to tell you that Arnold Katz has been appointed assistant surgeon on the full-time staff of the New England Medical Center Hospital's department of otolaryngology and assistant professor of otolaryngology at Tufts University School of Medicine. Arnie has been at the University of lowa Hospital since 1972, first as resident and more recently as associate. He obtained his M.D. degree from the Washington University School of Medicine and his M.S. from the University of lowa. He did his residency in general surgery at St. John's Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis.
Next June's 15th reunion is well under way toward success. Chairman Wayne Sloper has assembled a solid committee, including AndyAllen for publicity, Chuck Goldthwaite for social activities, and Barry Elson as treasurer. Meanwhile, Bill Courtney has begun his herculean task as reunion-giving chairman. Start putting something extra aside.
