Your secretary spent a few days in Denver in February and was able to see or talk to a hard core of '43s, Don and Pat Crance set up a small cocktail gathering for those who were downtown. Don is busy as director of training for the Rocky Mountain Region of Cyanamid Co. Although there was, at least to a New Englander, a welcome snow storm as of the cocktail gathering, but two days earlier Don had played six sets of outdoor tennis and Pat alledgedly had been sunbathing ... in February, yet! Near neighbors of the Crances in Littleton are Don and Sue Jones. Don, whose glee club baritone voice is still good and strong, is in sales for Pitney-Bowes. Don has been in Denver since returning from the Pacific in 1946, with the exception of three years in Oregon also for Pitney-Bowes.
Dr. Bill Wierman is still active in surgery in Denver. Bill, who originated in Denver, has practiced surgery there ever since his Navy days except for a five-year stint at the Mayo Clinic. Bill reminded us that Orm Birkland, his Dartmouth roommate, was also in Denver. We spoke to Orm on the phone and found that after he did a tour as a Naval aviator in World War II he returned to Denver and went into radio and TV sales and service. Orm now has his own store in one of the new shopping centers downtown and keeps active in both skiing and bowling.
George Eady, writes from Louisville, Ky., that he is chairman of the board of the George M. Eady Company, the Eady Construction Co. Inc., and president of ENCO. George has been very active in Louisville in business and civic affairs and is a member of the boards of directors of Liberty National Bank and Trust Co., The Fedder Printing Co., The Maryhurst School for Girls, the Louisville Country Club, and various contractor associations.
Somewhat out-of-date news includes a note from Bud Miskell that he played indoor tennis against Doc Fielding in Falmouth last fall. DonClark writes that he is busier than ever with duties as advertising and sales promotion production manager for ITEK Corporation, Vision Optical Division. The Clarks' children are described as "scattered" with sons Jonathan and Jeff both living in Portland, Me. Daughter Laurie lives in Charlottesville, Va., and is active in social welfare work. Don's father Sidney A. Clark '12 passed away last April.
The final for this month concerns Bill Burr whose wife Gerry writes (also from Louisville) that they had their first grandchild. This festive event occurred on September 5 to daughter Susan and her husband Bill Moss who is doing his orthopedic residency in Fort Wayne. Bill and Gerry's other daughter Geraldine is living in Bloomington, Ind., where her husband is getting his M.B.A. at Indiana University.
Remember again, next year is our advanced 35th Reunion. Keep the dates open.
