There are 37 of us left. I have written all classmates several times this past year. Only five have failed to respond. No letters were returned Our oldest living member is Dick Carpenter. He will be 91 on May 7. Dick still writes long letters on his typewriter. What a man! HowardBushway is the second oldest. He will be 91 on December 5 and still going strong. Ted Hill is the youngest. Ted will be 87 on September 4.
According to the Alumni Records Office there are 75 living class widows and nine interested daughters. Karen has written all of them and has received some very interesting replies. They all appreciated being remembered by the Class.
Our son-in-law Morrow Peyton '38 and our daughter Betty Peyton attended a dinner meeting of the Dartmouth Southwest Florida Alumni Association in Naples, Fla. When Bones Jones was introduced as representing the oldest class present, they introduced themselves to him. They were so pleased to meet Bones on this occasion.
Herb Wolff reports that Daisy appears to be a bit improved. Herb still goes from his home in White Plains to his law office in New York and usually takes work home with him.
Larry Bankart passed along a copy of the 58 billion balance sheet of First National Boston Corporation, and among the board of directors is listed Ben Ames Williams, son of our classmate Ben Ames Williams. How proud Ben would have been to see his son's name listed among this galaxy of big name bankers.
In a letter from Leon Kendall reporting on the Clearwater contingent he said he had been laid low by a virus but was now recovering. He said Larry and Miriam Bankart are in fine shape and so is Art Lord. Leon and Art had called on Andy Scarlett. He reported that Andy is alert as ever. Andy has four nurses. They have to lift him out of bed into his wheelchair where he spends considerable time. Andy celebrated his 87th birthday on St. Patrick's Day by having his nurses wheel him across the street to a fish house restaurant where he drank a martini to celebrate the occasion.
Bones Jones and I attended a luncheon meeting of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Southwest Florida in Naples in March. There were 75 alumni present. We were introduced as representing the oldest class present. Bones and Rena left Naples for their home in Melrose, Mass., in mid-March.
All of our classmates have received Andy Scarlett's annual appeal for this year's support of the Alumni Fund. In response to his urgent appeal I have increased my annual contribution this year 50 per cent as a token of appreciation for the many years of dedicated service rendered by Andy as our head class agent.
