Last month we quoted a letter from Henry Clay and this month we reproduce another from Slim Huntoon who lives in Palm Springs, Calif.: "Replying to your recent letter I doubt that anything I may do would be very interesting to our classmates. One comment, however, relates to your 'glorious winter climate at 15 below zero.' While you are enjoying it I am basking in some of the most delightful winter weather to be found anywhere. We have days of warm sunny weather ranging from 70-85 degrees. I suggest that you consider Southern California for your next winter sojourn. It has everything one could wish in beauty, comfort, and easy living.

"In recent years I have confined my physical activity to the swimming pool together with short hikes. I am particularly interested in our new $5.5 million museum and a $6 million library, both of which have just been opened and dedicated. Both are considered to be tops in their field and the museum did not cost the taxpayer a cent as it was built from funds donated by public spirited citizens many of whom are nationally and internationally known figures. It presents outstanding exhibits, sculptures, special films, concerts and lectures including nature walks.

"I also enjoy the bi-monthly bus trips to interesting places within a 200-mile radius. These are provided for senior citizens and are very popular and there are about 250 persons who go on each trip. For the most part these are people from all over the U.S. who come to Palm Springs for the winter and enjoy the interesting places and things that Southern California has to offer.

"There are a few Dartmouth men in this area. Frank Donovan '14 lives a few doors from me but he is the only one I know. Last fall Chad and Peggy Chadwell spent a day with us which we enjoyed very much. They live about 130 miles from Palm Springs and Chad is the nearest '19er.

"When there is nothing else to do I sit in the living room and watch the golfers. We live on the 8th fairway of a country club and while not an active golfer myself it is pleasant to watch others who are. It is interesting to see the electric carts, gay costumes, and the flubbed drives that go into the lake. Each summer they drain the seven lakes on the course and take out thousands of balls. When I gave up golf I gave over 500 balls to my next door neighbor who was a high jumper on the 1928 Olympic Team.

"This is my story for what it may be worth. We are well and happy and hope that you are also."
