As these class notes are published the ring of the Holiday Season is upon us and the zing of winter is in the New England air. Those of us who are skiers are optomistically predicting frequent snow storms in the North Country while those of us who are less attracted to this winter sport are praying that these predictions will not materialize in the stuff that has to be laboriously removed at substantial expense.
Ron Roth, basking in the sunny climes of Marina del Rey, Calif., has recently been made a vice president of Columbia Pictures, a position he views as a new type of exciting challenge. The administrative type requirements of this posi- tion are somewhat removed from his prior creativity oriented efforts in the entertainment world. Speaking of creativity, Ron advises that he and his new wife Wanda are expecting, which may make Ron the Class of ’s7s Father of the Youngest Child. Please keep your secretary in- formed should other members of the Class wish to challenge Ron for this enviable (?) title.
Peter Donald is living in another area that is probably warm at this time of year, namely South Africa. Pete is a vice president of New Jersey Zink Cos. and he heads up responsibility for all exploration by the company outside of North America.
Wife Perk writes that she and Dick Canton have recently moved from the East Coast to Atherton in northern California. Dick, who was elected a vice president of Merril, Lynch, Fenner & Smith in 1974, was recently named manager of Merril Lynch’s Palo Alto office, and the whole family is delighted with their new location. With Perk’s enthusiasm for the area, she should be on the Chamber of Commerce! Dick has already run into a number of ’s7s in- cluding Chuck King, Bill Davidow and PeteWardle.
Incidentally, your secretary is very receptive to receiving correspondence from wives who seem to be far more informative than their spouses. Get on the bandwagon, and let’s hear from more of you!
Another classmate who is leaving his imprint on the financial world is George Reichhelm, who was recently reelected to a two-year term as an industry representative on the American Stock Exchange Board of Governors. George was first elected to the Board in 1970 and again in 1975. He has been an Amex member since 1960 and is a former chairman of the Amex Specialist Association; he is presently a member of the Amex Options Committee. George currently resides in Westport, Conn.
Phil Rollins must be breathing a sigh of relief about now, having successfully completed his stint as chairman of the 1977 Mashpee United Fund campaign. Congratulations on an impor- tant job well done! Phil and Priscilla reside in Mashpee on Cape Cod in Massachusetts where a long-term legal battle is being waged by a local Indian tribe to take over a large portion of that area. As an attorney, Phil may very well be in the thick of that most interesting and probably frustrating legal entanglement. Phil is currently the district attorney of Cape Cod and Islands District, Superior Court House, Barnstable. He has previously served as district attorney of the Southern District of Massachusetts and special assistant attorney general under Edward W. Brooke and Elliot L. Richardson.
Best wishes to you all for the Holiday Season and may your 1978 be your finest year ever.
