Here we are up to "ground-hog" month and all hoping that he sees his shadow. There is one other shadow hanging over your secretary which can be dispelled by the "sunshine" of a few letters and cards with news about you.
A late but grateful thank-you to all of you who sent Christmas greetings.
The question in some minds is, "What has happened to the regular issues of the 'Balmacaan'?" Wanted: an editor to get out two or three issues a year. Apply to Everett H. Parker, 120 Franklin St., Denver, Colo. 80218.
We hereby and herewith award the degree of A.R. (Avid Reader) to Dick Parkhurst, who in leafing through his many magazines came across a copy of the summer 1975 issue of Vermont Life and found the story of the regeneration of the town of Windsor, Vt., which was done by three men foremost among whom were our Andy McClary and his brother Tom. Dick also reported that he had phoned Ig Eigner and Violet Ellis, both of whom were not feeling very well.
Phil and Betty Lewis, our dedicated 60th reunion chairmen, kept right on after the reunion by calling on 'l6ers. They saw Ruth Fuller, the Shanahans, Mary Fuller, Polly and DanDinsmoor, and Steve Harvey. Card in from the traveling McLennans that Hiram and Laura will spend a couple of months in Hawaii on the island of Maui. Hiram complained that the Texas cold weather was interfering with his golf.
Roger Evans shared with the secretary a letter he received from Freddy Frederikson, Munich, Germany, with his regrets that 'Balmacaan' had been retired. He also wrote. "I don't think that I have missed reading an issue [of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE] from cover to cover since graduation, and probably with more thoroughness than most, on account of being so far off." Freddy closes with all good wishes to all good '16ers.
A word from Dexter Rosen, son of our LeoRosen, tells that Leo is in a nursing home. Sorry to add Leo to the growing list of '16ers in nursing homes and hospitals.
These are trying and difficult times for the Class, as we have just lost three members: TugTyler died June 15, news which unfortunately came from Hanover December 10. Our sympathy to his wife Ruth, his daughter and two sons. Herb Dingwall died December 16, and our sympathy goes to his wife Betty and his son Allan, who was our guest speaker at the 60th reunion dinner. Jack Welch died December 14, and our sympathy goes to Marj. Jack and Marj were with us at the 60th. Formal obituaries will appear in coming issues.
