Under the joint sponsorship of the Laconia, N. H., Planning Board and Board of Adjustment, Russ Perley was recently given a dinner party in recognition of his long service to the community. Russ spent a total of 12 years on both boards and served as Chairman of the Planning Board for three years. In addition to carrying on an active medical practice together with his service to the community, Russ is also a Trustee of the Laconia Savings Bank and President of the Laconia Peoples National Bank and Trust Co....
A nice letter from Edith Beggs who has moved from Boston and is now living near her daughter and son-in-law and their two children in North Kingston, R. I. Edith is one of our 1923 ladies who will be included in Issue #4 of the Golden Review which you should be receiving soon.
Truman and Bunny Metzel are two of our most loyal supporters of Alumni College. A bit troubled that more of us haven't found it possible to attend these summer Hanover sessions, Truman recently undertook a limited survey of the Class to find out why. He has summarized the very significant results of his probing questionnaires and passed them along to the College which has been impressed to the point of undertaking similiar surveys among other classes.
Paul McKown writes Clarence that he will be out of circulation as a Class Agent in 1972. He and Priscilla are planning a four-month European trip that begins in London in April and will include Scotland and the Scandinavian countries via rented car.
Bob McMillan has been carrying on a most interesting correspondence with Lulu Claire Allen, the widow of Elijah HenryAllen. Henry, as most of us remember him. received his M.D. from Howard University in 1926 and an A.M. in Health Education from Ohio State in 1936. He passed away in 1960 following an outstanding career in medicine that took him finally to the Carrie V. Dyer Child Health and Maternity Center in Monrovia, Liberia W. A. where became a staff physician. Lulu, a gradual nurse, is now serving in a clinic in Monrovia. Her latest letter to Bob ends with—"—I am totally involved in helping to raise this country to greater heights. Yes, I have received the 1923 Golden Review and I thank you so much for remembering me May the Lord bless you and all the 1923 class is my prayer.
Larry Curtis writes: ' Retirement still keeps me busy doing what I choose from day A couple of months at Key West in the winter and two weeks in Virginia give in Lie opportunity to crab at something other than the State of the Union. Spasmdic summer trips to New Hampshire and Maine fill out my traveling schedule. Every year my good doctor prescribes more pills, tests, etc. but so far he has kept me above ground."
Bill Evans, who hasn't been reported in this column since 1959, says he is semiretired but still covering the Carolmas for the Baker Furniture Company.
Pete Alpaugh writes: "—have a big family surrounding us here. Four kids in New Orleans, eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild, one adopted son here with in Panama City, Fla. The Golden Review was grand. Haven't been north m many a year. Wish I could." Pete retired from International Paper in 1965
Clint Wells has been retired for the past six years from Chemical Bank New York Trust where he was Trust Officer. "He writes that 'his daughter Mrs. Elizabeth Milton presented the Wells with their first grandchild in 1970.
From Joe and Raffaela Lombardl comes word that Joe is still active in New York Real Estate. Daughter Carol married a Yale man They have a two-year-old son and are in Taiwan—he with First National City Bank. Son Bart '52, Thayer '54 is with IBM in their Westport, Conn., office. He and wife Phoebe have three children and live in Wilton, Conn. .
Enough has and will be said about coeducation and I won't attempt the pros and cons in this limited space. I do suggest however that any of you who are associated with regional Dartmouth Clubs get a taped copy of Charlie Zimmerman's recent speech to Head Class Agents and include it in one of your programs. I understand it is a classic.
