In view of the fact that our 15th reunion is fast approaching, it was thought appropriate that I, as class president, write this column to bring you up-to-date on some of the activities of the officers and executive committee of our Class.

All of us who are working closely with JohnClark and John Walters are particularly enthusiastic and proud of the job that the Class of 1962 is doing in connection with our reunion giving program. We are still going to need all of your support to meet the various official and non-official goals that John Clark has set for us. They are ambitious, but we want to set a mark that will long be remembered.

John Knight has the organization of the reunion well in hand and advance registrations are most encouraging. We have had a number of combination Alumni Fund/reunion meetings in New York which has given a number of us the opportunity to get together on a regular basis. We have been successful in bagging BarryAlperin with a lot of tabs at the Yale (Dartmouth) Club, since he is the only member. That is really why we have been inviting him, but we don't want him to know that.

As a number of you may know, Josh Rich has agreed to serve as chairman of the nominating committee responsible for selecting a slate of officeers to be presented to the Class for election at the reunion. Josh will welcome all suggestions, volunteers, etc. Don't be bashful! It is all too easy for the same group to stay active on a regular basis, and we certainly would like to encourage a broader participation. All of us who have been active have found it to be a most rewarding experience as it leads to a number of new or enhanced friendships.

Carl Palmer and I recently spent three days in Hanover while we were interviewing at Tuck School for Chemical Bank. We had the opportunity to have drinks with Mike Slive and JayPierson during our stay. Mike incidentally is a good person to stay in touch with. As an addition to his duties as a local attorney, he serves as the local Hanover judge. I am not sure that any '62s can expect any favorable treatment, however, as he is known as the "hanging judge."

I attempted to look at our class gift while in Hanover. Unfortunately, the snow was so deep that I was unable to see anything, but I have been reassured that the trees which we planted around the new Thompson Arena were planted last fall and should be in good shape for the formal dedication at reunion. For those of you who have expressed concern about the build-up of cash in our treasury, I can assure you that we have now wiped much of it out, but I think that all will be pleased with the use of our surplus.

On a personal note, Liz and I were recently dragged back kicking and screaming from San Francisco where we had spent the last nine months. Although it seemed as though we had barely touched down, we did have the opportunity to see Jay Fritz while we were there. After several years in Hanover as an associate in the secretary's office, Al Cook will be relocating to New York where he will become executive director of Big Brother.
