As the autumn breezes begin to nip noses with their chilly bites, your secretary is settling down in a warm easy chair to pen this month's column.
For Art Hittner and Steve Tyson, the waining days of summer brought a small scale "baby boom." A six lb. nine oz. baby boy, Jeffrey William, was born to Art and Peggy (sister of Bruce (Lovely) Tepper) on September 16. Steve is the proud father of his second son, Christopher Michael, born on August 31. At this rate, the Class of '98(!) will be oversubscribed in no time.
Vance Smith, who is a resident in general surgery at Letterman Army Medical Center in San Francisco, is the father of a ten-month-old baby boy, Ryan Gardner, born last January.
Jerry O'Brien was married on June 14, 1975 to Virginia McCann of Wellesley Hills, Mass. Pete Kieley, Dave Conlon, Richie Carleton and Bill Skibitsky were ushers. Also in attendance were Tony Fitzpatrick, Bill Jacobson, JohnColangelo and Mike Roberts.
Jose Gutierrez-Vargas has been married since August 18, 1973 and has a beautiful adopted four-year-old daughter, Veronica. His wife teaches severely retarded children through the C.A.R.C. agency. Jose is the bilingual program director of Quigley South, a small seminary in the Chicago archdiocese, and was nominated for the Young Man of the Year Award by an independent alderman with whom he works as a community affairs representative.
Andy Urban completed his four-year J.D.M.B.A. program at the University of Pennsylvania last May and is associated with the Boston law firm of Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Glovsky and Popeo.
Wayne Derkac has begun a two-year appointment as a clinical associate in surgery at the National Heart and Lung Institute in Bethesda, Md., where he is pursuing clinical and research interests in cardiac surgery.
Roger Rochlen received his master of arts degree in history from California State College, Sonoma, last June.
Bob Moeller is currently at Cornell University, working on a Ph.D. in aquatic biology.
Having received his M.A. and M.L.S. from the University of British Columbia in Victoria, Don Thornbury is working as a descriptive cataloguer, which he describes as "a species of librarian," at Princeton University Library. His wife Barbara '71S, is in Japan doing research for her Ph.D. thesis on Japanese theater.
Peter Phillips is touring the East, Midwest and South playing a horse (just the front-end) in a "bus and truck" tour of the Broadway play, "Equus," directed by John Dexter. Later this month, Peter leaves the tour momentarily on a Thursday morning in Lexington, Ky., to marry Elaine Bromka on Saturday and rejoin the tour in Columbus, Ohio, on Sunday night. Peter writes: "Some Hopkins Center fanatics may remember Elaine as 'me.' Now, finally, I'm 'him.'"
Having received his M.B.A. from the University of Chicago, John Rysewic has been working on the audit staff of Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. in their Chicago office. DanRadakovich, who has hung out his shingle and is working as a public defender, lives only a few blocks away.
Finally,Greg Fell is in Germany with the Overseas International Banking Division of American Express Company. He returned from the Far East in October, 1975 after two years in the Philippines, Vietnam and Okinawa for American Express.
