Alas, Chicago is a great place to be. . . . The proximity of O'Hare Field prompts calls from such illustrious characters as Peter Wonson, on his way to start a new job as assistant headmaster at the Carlisle School in Virginia, following two years as director of admissions at the Cathedral School in Duluth, Minn.

A touching letter about deceased classmate Dr. Walter Baynes reached me from Dr. Kenneth Nicholson '45. Dr. Nicholson is an area enrollment director for Massachusetts and referred to Walt as "the smartest boy ever to come out of western Massachusetts" in the 25 years he has worked with the enrollment program. Nicholson went on to say, "He was a very gentle man who loved people. His whole life was dedicated to helping other people. He loved Dartmouth with a passion and never gave up his membership in the Dartmouth Club of Springfield though he lived in Boston, New York, and New Jersey. In honor of Walter, the Springfield Club has established the Dr. Walter J. Baynes Memorial Award as an annual award. This was first presented to Peter Maglathin of Longmeadow, an outstanding Dartmouth senior who has been a member of Casque and Gauntlet, the Alumni Council and Fund committees, and a captain of both the squash and tennis teams for two consecutive years.
