Congratulations to John Isaacson, appointed director of the Office for Children by Governor Edward King of Massachusetts. John held positions in the administrations of former Governors Sargent and Dukakis, and has been active in the King transition. He is a graduate of Harvard Law School and was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University.

From the Advertiser Democrat in Norway, Maine, comes word of Stephen Bauer as the "newest pediatrician in town." Steve moved to South Paris, Maine, last August to become a partner in a pediatric practice. His new offices will be in a house being converted to a Child Health Center, of which his wife Ann will be program coordinator. Steve is a 1972 graduate of the University of Michigan Medical School, was a pediatric resident at the University of California, and received an M.P.H. from the Harvard School of Public Health. He also served as a pediatrician at a neighborhood health center in Boston while at Harvard.

Pete Hofman has beer, named executive vice president of Bio-Genetics Inc. of Gilford, N.H., and as such will be responsible for corporate operations. Peter is a graduate of Tuck School and moved to his new position from VTN Consolidated Inc., where he was project manager for the Environmental Impact Section 4(f) Statement concerning the completion of the White Mountain (Franconia Notch) section of Interstate 93. For VTN, he also directed the preparation of a first-in-the-nation Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement for the United States General Services Administration, related to the disposal and reuse of surplus federal military properties in Rhode Island. Prior to joining VTN, Peter served as a consultant on water and related land resources planning to the New England River Basins Commission and the New Hampshire Office of State Planning.

John Meehan has moved to Hartford, Conn., as assistant director of Hartford Hospital, a 945-bed operation. He will be in charge of ambulatory services, chaplains, medical records, the staff office, and the departments of medicine, neurology, obstetrics/gynecology, pediatrics, pharmacology, and social services! Prior to joining Hartford Hospital, John was vice president of Putnam Memorial Hospital in Bennington, Vt.

Don Miller's self-defense workshops for women drew record crowds in Boston. May I recommend opening up branches in N.Y.C., L.A., Chicago, Atlanta, and a few other places, Don. His new book, The Body Electric will be published in the spring. Eight-year-old son Jason is following in dad's footsteps. He is going to write for Mad magazine.

Yet another author, Tom Couser, has published American Autobiography: TheProphetic Mode (University of Massachusetts Press), in which he traces the tradition of prophetic American biography from the Puritans to the present. Tom is assistant professor of English at Connecticut College.

Frederic Alpert '54 kindly sent word that our own Larry Himes has been promoted to executive vice president of Burlington Furniture (Lexington, N.C.) with responsibility for sales, national accounts, and product development. With Burlington since 1970, Larry last served as administrative assistant to Burlington Industries president Frank Greenberg, on special assignment in the furniture group.

In New York City, Chris Meigher continues his climb at Time Inc. Previously circulation director of Time magazine, he is now president of Time Distribution Services Inc., the national distributor of its magazines.

From the West Coast comes word that JimNaughton won a Kaiser Award for excellence in teaching at the University of California's San Francisco School of Medicine. Jim is assistant chief of medicine at U.C.S.F. Moffitt Hospital. He and his wife Candace have two children.
