To start our monthly report, here is the latest on plans for the 55th:
Dave Dyche, who is chairing the reunion, says: "The days to remember in 1979 are June 8-10 (the Commencement weekend), when we hold our first and only 55th reunion. The committee met in Hanover on September 14 to lay the groundwork for what it wants to be an interesting, relaxed, and memorable occasion. The pattern will be similar to that of our highly successful 50th. The key to good planning is knowledge of how many to count on. The committee asks that those who have not already done so please complete and mail the reply card enclosed with its October letter." We might add, as one who formerly chaired a reunion, that the sooner you heed Dave's request, the better. '24 up for 55!
We would like to expand further on the meeting of the reunion committee on September 14, which also qualifies as a minireunion. There were present: Dave and JulieDyche, Dana and Margurite Haskin, Don Bartlett, Pauline Hartshorn, Robin Robinson, Wes and Warby Blake, Dick Morin, Sam Lamson, Gretchen and Dana Bent, and Dave Orr as advisor.
The Roly Taylors, recently spent a week's vacation on the Cape, which included a visit with the Bents and bowling on the green in Chatham, Roly's favorite sport.
Sid Fish was present in Hanover on Commencement weekend when the Robert Fish memorial award for excellence in teaching was presented for the first time. Bob Fish '18 was Sid's brother.
Brad Hersey's collection of early American tools and artifacts was sold at auction in August. This collection represented articles collected by Brad over many years and was one of the most outstanding and interesting collections in New England, rivaling Putty Blodget's collection, which was moved intact to Woodstock about two years ago.
The Dyches observed their 50th wedding anniversary on September 22. Congratulations to them.
A news item from the Concord Journal reports that the Morse Museum in Warren, N.H., celebrated its 50th anniversary in July. As we have previously reported, the museum is owned and operated by Phil Morse.
Don Wilbur was recently presented a tray by the Tuck School Alumni Association in recognition of his work in connection with Tuck Alumni.
Paintings by Stu Eldredge, who has won many awards, were exhibited in September at the Southern Vermont Art Center in Manchester, Vt.
Friends of Alex Gibson have plans to place a natural Vermont boulder with a bronze plaque on the lawn of McIndoe Academy, with which Alex was closely associated, to commemorate his unselfish public endeavors.
Robin Robinson, along with his involvement in student enrollment patterns and radio programs, has recently met the grandson of Charlie French (Peter Conway).
Larry Hewes is now back in Washington, after a year in Santa Barbara, and is spending his time reading and writing. He is happy to be back near his children and grandchildren.
About the time you read this, the weekend at Lake Morey will have taken place. We are sure that it will have been a success as usual, and details will be covered by Sam Lamson in the "24-Hour Notice."
