You are all familiar with "Dartmouth Night." This is Dartmouth week so far as your secretary is concerned, starting with the monthly meeting of the Dartmouth Club of Cape Cod and concluding with Class Officers Weekend and a meeting of the class executive committee in Hanover. More on these last two events later. Now to the news which has come to our attention.

The Kendall Smiths are about to celebrate their 55th wedding anniversary and are now great-grandparents.

Warren Hollis reports from St. Petersburg that both he and his wife have been having health problems during the winter, which he admits was unseasonably cold.

From Ed Streater comes further information regarding the '24 mini-reunion held in Tucson, which included Helen and Jimmie Reid, Harryand Frances Holmlund, Doris and Doug Craig,Julie and Dave Dyche, Jeanette French, Philand Lou Van Huyck, Herb and Beatrice Marks,Dick and Dolores Morin, and Jean and EdStreater. This group assembled following the meeting of the Dartmouth Club of Tucson.

A card has been received from the DonWilburs from Cornwall, England, which is a part of England they had not previously visited.

Larry Treat has been honored with the Edgar Allen Poe award, which was conferred for his editing of the Mystery Writer's Handbook, published by Writer's Digest. This award is known as an Edgar and is Larry's second, the previous award having been in 1965 for the best mystery story of the year.

The Department of Music of the College has announced a scholarship which has been established by a gift from Penn Haile in memory of Gerald Tracy, a pianist, recitalist, and teacher at the julliard School of Music in New York. He was a frequent visitor to Norwich and later a part-time resident. He died on October 28, 1976. The award will consist of scholarship aid in the amount of $2,500 to be given to a student in the junior class who is qualified to receive such aid and who is, in the judgment of the Music Department, an outstanding student of piano. It will be awarded in the spring of the student's junior year and will be held by the student during her or his senior year. It will then pass on to the next student selected.

Charlie Amelung and his wife toured the Orient last year on an Alumni Flights Abroad trip, visiting Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Java, Bali, Hongkong, and Taiwan. Charlie comments that it was a most successful conducted tour, which he heartily recommends.

The Bill Pattens are now living in an apartment. Bill has had a hospital stay and although he misses his garden, he does not miss the weeding and yard work. He had recently heard from Fred Shaijeman, who seems to lead a busy life.

Bob Benjamin's wife Esther has had a series of medical problems, and Bob is kept busy with paramedic and household duties.

Stub Reid, writing from Mt. Dora, Fla., is still enjoying golf with his "age group." We assume that is what we call the "seniors" on Cape Cod.

Ken Christophe, in expressing appreciation for his birthday card, reports that his health is improving and he hopes to make the fall weekend party.

John McElwain recently visited the Dyches in Bradford, Vt. John's granddaughter is a member of the freshman class.

We have received word of the deaths of four classmates: Ernie Barvoets on March 1, PhilLyster on April 12, Ford Bowman on April 19, and Ted Learned on April 28.

The officers of the Class spent an interesting and informative weekend in Hanover, along with officers of other classes assembled for Class Officers Weekend. As usual, matters of interest were presented and discussed by members of the administration. We were also afforded the opportunity to hear the thoughts and reactions of several students to their Dartmouth experience. 1924 was represented by Jimmie Reid, Sam Lamson, Earl Daum, DaveDyche, Beatie Adams, and Dana Bent.

Dave Dyche reported on plans for the 55th reunion, which are being developed. Just to remind you again, the dates are June 8-10, 1979. Details will soon be forthcoming and will be reported here and in the "24-Hour Notice."

Once again, here is a reminder that the fall weekend party will be at the Lake Morey Inn, October 13-15, and the feature attraction is the Yale game. It's not too early to send your reservations to the Inn.

This will be our last issue until October. In the meantime the "24-Hour Notice" will no doubt bring you any news which may be of interest. So - until October - hail and farewell. Have a good summer!
