A very interesting clipping from the Stamford, Conn., Advocate has come to my desk relating the experiences of Bags Wanamaker in the field of sports after graduation from Dartmouth. He was signed by the New York Giants as a catcher because of his outstanding catching on the Dartmouth baseball team during his undergraduate years. He played for several years with various farm clubs, meeting many of the famous players of that day. In 1921 Bags became coach of the Yale hockey team and for seven years brought that team to a record of wins the second highest in that school's history.
Turning then to a business career, Bags joined the United States Rubber Company, now known as Uniroyal, and served as plant manager in a number of locations, including Venezuela, until his retirement in 1957. Since retirement, he and his wife Grace have traveled extensively, visiting over 85 countries and every state in the U.S. except Alaska and North Dakota. The Wanamakers have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. We are sorry that crippling arthritis has prevented Bags from attending our recent reunions.
We were glad to get word from TracyBrownell, although he reported the necessity of using a walker to get around. Helen Rose told of a severe fall and a slow recovery since returning from our last reunion. Since his retirement Hal Davison has begun to experience more and more difficulty in getting around. We trust that these '15ers and others who are having difficult times will get relief soon and begin to enjoy better health. We want them to keep in touch.
