In case you forgot, the last issue was a combination January/February, so we got a month off. In the meantime we had an enjoyable Christmas graced by a number of cards. Thanks to Monk Amon, the Erdmans, Luttrells,Berensons, Bassetts, Falions, Mayos,Laughtons, Cochranes, Fenns, the Ernie Rooses and Bob Rosses.
And from Jane Brown a picture of most of her many grandchildren with a note thanking us all for providing such a grand reunion, which she loved. Her current activities are brushing up on courses in writing and advanced Italian; also a trip to New Zealand, Australia, and the Fiji Islands soon. Cel Barrett said she was too involved with family to attend. Marge and BenDoran's card was pictures of their 40th wedding anniversary as well as a great shot of them taken at reunion by Sey Ochsner. Myrtle andTom McIntyre sent apologies as "no-shows" at the D/H game, saying they bought tickets for two games and neither worked out. Barbi andDana Douglass were looking forward to their two new granddaughters' first Christmas. Martha and Boz, fresh back from a hunting trip in Yucatan, regretted missing their first fall reunion. The Ashers" was a pictorial current history of their family and equally as good as an issue of People magazine.
And newsletters, bless 'em. Lynn and DanaPrescott's was mainly about skiing, traveling, kids, and house remodeling. Dana is now promoted to employee relations manager for Beckman Instruments. Sherry and Al Bryant claim not to lead a glamorous life in Brazil, but the reading thereof appears glamorous enough. No news yet on homecoming. The Aylward saga proves 24-hour days are too short for the entire family. Meg is wound up with the League of Women Voters trying to get Congressional representation for Washington: Their bumper sticker reads "D.C., Last Colony." We recommend you get on their Christmas list to know all they are doing.
More sad news. We have lost three good guys — Les Koenig, George Andrews, and HarryCooke. See the obituary section. We recently reported the death of GrantCrane. He and Phyllis brought their bright young son, Charley, to reunion to interview the admissions folks. Lo and behold, Charley was accepted for early admission, and if all works out as planned, he may be our first class member scholarship recipient. In setting up this scholarship with the College, we specified priority for any issue of our class. This seemed a bit remote then, as most sons and/or daughters had already passed through. More on this later.
We had word that Sey Ochsner was incommunicado in the hospital. Sure enough, he answered our quick query indicating a rough two weeks with double pneumonia, virus type, last November. Okay now. He passed along news that he had been appointed a member of the Alumni Council, which entails two meetings a year in Hanover. Congratulations from us all. He also noted a candlelight dinner at Brennan's with that great Jean McGee he brought to reunion. Good work, Sey!
By way of thanks to Ben Doran in appreciation for his efforts on reunion, the Class sent him a Dartmouth rocking chair. He was tickled to death and expresses thanks to all. Another recipient of a Dartmouth chair was BillBreitinger, a Christmas gift to him from Jean and the family. And, boy, is he pleased and proud, she says. In January Bill had a fall, breaking his paralyzed, arm, but it seems it is mending okay.
Jim Luttrell tells us he retires from the New England Telephone next summer. He and Jean have made numerous trips to the islands seeking a retirement spot they consider suitable, and they have practically decided upon St. John. They will rent a place there for a year while they look around to decide definitely. They see Bob Cheney, who established there with wife Sarah and is now almost a native of the place. Jim says the Cheneys have been most helpful. Jim also tells us that ex-phone-company classmate, George Skinner, who retired to Centerville on Cape Cod, spent several months in Amman on some sort of consulting job. Wife Gaily was included.
If you don't like leftovers, send fresh news: otherwise, your bill of fare for next month will be just that — leftovers from the reunion.
