Spring is reluctantly making its appearance in Chicago - the skies are clear but the temperature is in the 40's - so sifting through the mail remains a favorite indoor pastime. Among the bills and letters this month are a few items of Class news.

Ralph Child has been named a 1978 Luce Scholar by the Henry Luce Foundation, Inc. of New York City. Ralph is one of 15 persons selected by the foundation from the United States this year. He will study in Asia from October through August of next year, and will receive a stipend of $9,000. Ralph attended Harvard Law School and is currently a law clerk to senior circuit Judge Bailey Aldrich in Boston.

On the arts scene, Alan Lowell is a lighting designer in Portland, Me., with the Ram Island Dance Company. Alan writes that they are "a small, growing company.... Believe me, their product is completely professional."

Geoffrey Clear and his wife Donna are living in New York City, where he is the manager of financial planning for W. R. Grace & Co. In this position he is responsible for yearly budgets, long range forecasting, monthly internal financial reports, and special financial reports. His wife works for Manhattan legal aid in the criminal appeals division.

Phill Goia is enjoying his third year of pediatric residency in Tampa, Fla. He plans to practice general pediatric medicine in the National Health Corps in Florida or New York.

He writes that "H.E.W. pays a salary to practice in a physicial shortage area in a community clinic. 1 like talking with parents and communicating with children. I look forward to a community rather than hospital-based practice. Sound preventive medicine which is community based should be the basis for any new national health insurance."

On the wedding scene, '72s in attendance at the marriage of J. C. McKenzie and Debra Pedersen in Glen Cove, Long Island, included Wade Judge, Bill Pollock, Chip Carstensen,Dave Engle and his wife Jan, Shel Prentice, and Jim Silcock.

Recently I visited Dan Cooperman in San Francisco, where he is practicing law between skiing expeditions to Squaw Valley and taking flying lessons. Dan reports that Bill Price, who is presently a business student at Stanford, may be heading for the Windy City this summer to work for McKinsey & Co.

Fred Crossman, currently an accountant with Price, Waterhouse & Co. in Chicago, is also a part-time law student at DePaul University here.

Please remember the Alumni Fund this month, and drop a line with some personal news if you get a chance. Have a pleasant summer - see you in the fall.
