We are writing these notes on the day the ground-hog is scheduled to appear to tell us what the balance of the winter holds in store for us. (Does he appear in Florida and Arizona, too?) By the time you read this, however, we will know for sure; but regardless of what happens, we will be that much closer to June and the 55th!
Bob McCollum reports feeling better after the installation of a pacemaker, and a similar report comes from Bob Hayes, now living in Sarasota, where he plays golf three times a week and is active in church and Red Cross activities. Bob's family includes a son and a son-in-law, both Dartmouth graduates.
Ralph Stuart is still carrying on his insurance business and includes with his note a picture, taken on his 78th birthday, of him riding horseback as he does weekly in the Rowley State Forest. Not bad for a young fellow of 78!
The Jimmie Reids plan a trip in April starting from San Francisco, including stops in China, Japan, the Philippines, and through the inside passage from Alaska. They will return in time for the 55th.
Leonard and Marjorie Rautenberg are now living in Kennet Square, Pa., in a home operated by the Quakers. This is located near their two daughters, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. They still spend their summers in Maine with Marjorie's sister.
Pat Donnelly is still bowling on winning bowling teams in Pompano Beach, Fla. He and Mary celebrate their 54th wedding anniversary in April. Congratulations!
Ken Bubier, retired lieutenant colonel, writing from Corona del Mar, Calif., says that he plans to attend a meeting of the Orange Coast Dartmouth Club and wonders if he will be the oldest alumnus in attendance. Note: The Dartmouth Club of Cape Cod has members from the Class of 1909.
A late report from Bradford, Vt., indicates that Putty Blodgett is as cheerful and as active as his problems allow.
Fred Laidlaw, living in Harwich, Mass., has recently presented a program of colored slides from the Metropolitan Museum of Art on early Celtic art to the Friends of the South Yarmouth Library.
The Chitticks are presently on a trip to China - another in their many trips to interesting places. We will give a further report on their return.
The Lamsons have spent their winter vacation in Delray Beach, Fla., and the Bents are spending the month of March in St. Croix.
Lois Hersey has moved from Powderhorn Farm and is now living in a house she has built in Weare, N.H. Her new address is "Beaver Meadows," Poor Farm Road (we doubt that!).
Wes and Bassy Blake have sold their home in South Pomfret, Vt„ and are now living in Wilder, Vt. Wes says their new home is easier to maintain, and, of course, close to Hanover. They took a trip to Switzerland last year in celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary.
We have just learned of the death of DocChristophe. We extend our sympathy to Ethel and his son, Phillip '54. The Class has lost a loyal member.
Plans are well under way for the 55th. The March mailing should have been received by the time you read this. If you have not sent in your reply, we urge you to do so without delay. Dave has a sub-committee working on the problem of insuring the best of June Hanover weather - pleasant and warm. We hope you will be there to enjoy it. Remember it's the only 55th for 1924!
