The night before the Harvard game, Myles Lane served as chief marshal in the torchlight parade around the campus, and the Dartmouth Night celebration was capped by a huge bonfire on the Green. The local Valley News, a daily newspaper with a large area circulation, ran a feature story about Myles the day before the game, pointing out, among many things in Myles's career, the fact that he is still the alltime Dartmouth scoring leader in football for both a career and a season.
A week ago I wrote the College to find out if Jeff Glendinning still held the Dartmouth record for the 220-yard dash. Peter Fox Smith, women's track coach, replied that Jeff's record had lasted 35 years. Gerry Ashworth '63 lowered it by two-tenths of a second and Ashworth's record still stands. Fox added: "I'll bet that Geoffrey Glendinning is the grandfather of twins Deborah and Jennifer Glendinning '83, both of whom ran on my cross country team." A call to Jeff confirmed the hunch.

Joe Smith, who interrupted an eight-week radiation program to attend our fall mini-reunion in 1981, was hospitalized three times this year. Joe says he is a bit better and takes a short walk every afternoon in front of their apartment in Umatilla, Fla.
Many '28ers spend vacations in the West Indies, and some of them have a favorite island: Roy and Herta Milliken have a home Roy built near Hopetown in the Bahamas; Johnand Peggy Phillips go every year to St. Croix; Jack and Peggy Zellers like quiet little St. Barts (their daughter Margaret Zellers is editor of Fielding's book on the Caribbean and has written several books on the area, as well as on Europe); and Nick and Clodagh Carter also spend several weeks a year on St. Barts just to name a few who know the islands. Mary and I tried St. Lucia last spring and think we might try a different island next time. Budd and Mibs Maring have meandered through the West Indies via ship, boat, and plane (usually the latter) since 1952, visiting just about every island, so I wrote them for advice. Their favorite is Antigua. They first went there in 1957, returned in 1964, and have been back every year since, often in conjunction with a stopover somewhere, usually Nevis, St. Kitts, or Bequia. In the past two years they have returned only to Antigua. If you want helpful, detailed comments, I'll be glad to share Budd's letter. Why don't some of you '28ers get together on St. Barts, Antigua, or any of what Budd calls "the enchanted islands."

Henry and Bobbie Buchtel moved from Colorado three years ago and are well and happy in Green Valley, Ariz. Henry says swimming is about their only sport. Their son Henry has come back to the U.S. after ten years abroad and is at the University of Michigan in the Psychology Department. He is married to an English woman and has two children.
