President McLaughlin, suffering from chest pains, admitted himself to Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital on Monday, November 22. Doctors kept him in the hospital for tests until Saturday, when they released him with instructions to restrict his schedule for a couple of weeks and to watch his diet. McLaughlin, who was feeling fine by Tuesday, is reported to have found Thanksgiving week in the hospital on the boring side.

The diagnosis was "very small heart attack," and the president has been advised to consider it an early warning. He passed all the initial tests with flying colors, according to his physician, who said, "He has made a quick and satisfactory recovery and is expected to do very well." The president was back at work briefly the following Monday and was expected to undergo further tests just to be on the safe side.
