Apologies to Shelly Gisser and his daughter for misspelling her name in our last issue. However, the error generated a bit of news from Shelly. His son Don is a high school junior and his wife Nan has an M.A. in school psychology, but is now back in school learning about computers. Shelly himself is practicing law in Cleveland and is also involved in a number of businesses, mostly related to coin-operated amusement games. Among his outside activities, he is a member of the executive committee of the Dartmouth College Alumni Association of Greater Cleveland and is involved in interviewing applicants. He and his wife and son do some cross-country skiing, which took them around western Vermont last winter, with a stop at Hanover, and in early February of this year they were skiing near Rutland and stopped at Hanover again. He plans to visit Hanover in April for Freshman Parents Weekend.
Gene Kohn related a nice story about his daughter Janet, who started at Emory University in Atlanta this past fall. Before she went off to Atlanta, Gene heard that Stephanie Henriquez, daughter of Ed Henriquez who was in the same dorm as Gene at Dartmouth, would also be a freshman at Emory. Naturally both fathers instructed their respective offspring to look the other up, and naturally both offspring ignored such requests. However, over Christmas holidays, it was discovered that without trying the girls had become friends and had shared a lot of activities together.
Morton Kondracke, living in Washington, D.C., writes the following: "I was doing my civic duty last week, getting ready to serve on a jury in Montgomery County, Maryland, when a familiar face yelled hello and introduced himself as Charlie Lund. It turns out we've lived a block apart for several years and not known it. We sat on the same jury on a personal injury case - and classmates will be glad to know that Lund's mind has not dulled with the years. He knifed through all the issues in the case within seconds, convincing me and other slower memers of the group that the plaintiff contributed to his own injuries and deserved no damages. Charlie teaches English at the University of the District of Columbia and I try to write it for the New Republic and the Wall StreetJournal and once in a while get my mug on T.V."
