For some reason or another, many of you laggards decided to send me news of yourselves and your chums. Thank you. Unfortunately, most of the updates concerned marriages and job changes. Why can't one of you have a sex change operation or something?
Meg and Greg Morrow-Clayton believe that they may have brought the first '79 offspring into this world. Welcome aboard, Christopher Clayton (class of 2000?). Greg will be finished at Georgetown Law in May and will be on the take thereafter in Rockport, Maine.
Other news also comes from Georgetown Law, where marriage licenses are attached to the diplomas. Onjanuary 16, 1982, for reasons beyond me, Ellen Hamada married T. J. Crane. Chris Morris was more than a bit miffed that he was not on the guest list. Needless to say, Cheeks was conspicuous by his absence. Tom O'Neil was at Georgetown and is engaged to Nancy Doore (I hope that this is the correct spelling).
I was quite happy at Dartmouth but that sweet memory was somewhat tainted when I realized several weeks ago that I had been passed up for membership in the Channing-Cox Country Club. It seems that there was an underground that many of us were quite unaware of. Doug "Snavely" Egan was the ring leader of a highly corrupt bunch. Among them number: John "Aldo" Dougherty (now at Texas A&M), Bernie "The Spy" O'Neil (St. John's Law School, and in love with an elusive blonde named Jodi), and Mike "Moo Moo" Fine, a medical student. Snavely is graduating from Cornell Law and says that Webster Avenue was for pikers, while Channing-Cox was for the true long-ball hitters. Keep me posted, Snave.
J. Larry Mills, not to be confused with Mark Mills, who has never done anything noteworthy, was recently elected an assistant secretary in Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company's international division. The news release said that J. Larry is now pulling down a cool $65K, and that he can lay claim to a list of corporate "perks" that would make your head spin. Eat your heart out, Tom Bird.
I am indebted to Martha Jean Erickson Eger (married to Tom Eger '77) for her newsy letter; it was penned in a laundromat in Lawrence, Kans. She is finishing up a master's in geology while her hubby is working on his in electrical engineering. They plan to move to Houston and incorporate.
M. J. reports that Margi Hall is in Kansas City working for Mutual Benefit Life. When whe was in K.C., Martha Jean teamed up with Margi and did several alumni interviews. I have also had the opportunity to do some of these. I would suggest that any of you who can find the time do likewise. It's enjoyable and worthwhile.
M. J. says that Kathy Peden is selling amphetamines for American Dietary Products in Bloomington, Minn. Lucrative, I'm sure.
Carol Frost married Eric Nye and as this is old news, I hope that they are still wed.
Liz Proctor Grey and husband (Wayne '77) are bound for Australia for the alleged purpose of doing field research.
Speaking of alleged reports, Mark No-Rox has just surfaced again. Rox relates that Joe Nastri, Jeff Hickey, Roger Phillips, and himself were all present when Gogi and Erin were married January 2 in Denver. Rox is returning to med school in Poland.
Ben Riley sent me a great letter detailing a wild trip up the Amazon by bus (?) and back down by cargo ship (that's better). Ben is now at U.C. Berkeley and welcomes all visitors. Unless you go out there to see him, it sounds like you'll never see him again; he's apparently fallen in love with California.
Ben reports that Agent .007, Chris O'Brien, was caught in the midst of an attempted coup in Gambia. Fortunately, Chris had his P.F. Flyer spy kit, and he managed to dodge the insurgents' bullets. He was flown to safety in Senegal . . "out of the frying pan".
I had a few choice tidbits from Paul Krpuka, but I'll save them for April in case you guys stop writing. Happy New Year.
