G'day from the Great White North. Today's topics are medicine and back bacon. Eric Batson writes: "In June 1979 I graduated from the Medical College of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, along with Rose Purrazella '76, Pete Rossi '73 (?), and Rick Newbold '69 (?). Two days later I married a classmate, Elisabeth Wright M.D. The next year we did internship in Portsmouth, Va. We are now in the Dallas, Tex., area. Lisa is working for the Navy as a flight surgeon and I am at Southwestern Medical School working on a Ph.D. in medical computer science."

Duncan Ferguson writes: "Greetings to all my classmates. Presently, I am trying to put finishing touches on my Ph.D. in endocrinology while starting a residency in small animal medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary Hospital in Philadelphia. This past summer I was married to Margarethe Hoenig, a fellow vet who graduated from a school in Hannover . . . West Germany!"

Now we hear from another animal-lover. Doriane Ruml reports: "Since graduating, I have worked with a veterinarian in a small animal practice. I have earned an M.A. in education and recently became certified as a 'consulting teacher of reading.' My husband David '71 and I have successfully spawned two male offspring. The first was Carter (age four) and the second was Winthrop (age two weeks)." Congratulations, Doriane. I don't want to get too personal, but is it true that spawning is only successful when done on a waterbed? Just wondering.

And finally, Barry Cohen writes: "Married June 5, 1977. Serving as a pediatrician at Wurtsmith A.F.B., Oscoda, Mich. Wife is dentist there. Northeast Michigan is like Hanover except it has sandy soil, fewer birch trees, and is flat. . . . Well, I guess both have cold climates anyway. Any alumni in the area, feel free to drop by."

Before we start our second topic back bacon - we have some other news. Tom Thomson tells us: "My twin daughters are pushing three now, and life is much the way it was when I was living at Psi U. I have been engaged in the black arts of investment banking since graduation from Tuck in 1979 and was recently promoted to vice president of wheat, First Securities Inc. in Richmond. Chuck Glovsky, are you still making chocolate chip cookies?" He's barely settled into his job as v.p. for wheat, and he already wants to corner the snack food account.

Abject Resignation Department: David Wendell writes: "I have resigned as corporate development officer, Saga Corporation, to join Western Athletic Club Inc. as an officer and vice president of operations. We own and operate two urban athletic clubs in San Francisco, two in Seattle, one opening in Houston, and we are looking at several locations on the East Coast. Stop by if you're near Palo Alto, Calif."

Gordon Howe resigned his commission last summer after six years in the Marine Corps. "I married Erica Thomas in Sydney, Australia, on December 5, 1981, and I will return to school to study geology (again) at the University of Sydney. I have regrown the hair and beer belly that were taken away from me at Parris Island and never returned." I heard the Marines put all that stuff in a footlocker when you join and throw away the key.

Here's some news closer to home. "After four years of corporate course work at Exxon U.," writes John Carmony, "I have graduated to a small oil and gas exploration firm, Tucker Exploration, where I spend my days dreaming up prospects. Free time is devoted to running (2:47 Boston Marathon), hunting, and my wife Michelle (Mt. Holyoke '76), who took early retirement from Ma Bell to enjoy the leisurely life of an 'oil baron's wife' and pursue equine interests."

Well, that's all the time we have for our show today. We'll have to talk about back bacon next column because right now I have to take off, so g'day.
