Happy belated Labor Day to you, happy belated Labor Day to you, happy belated Labor Day to all my classmates, happy belated Labor Day to you. If you think I have flipped out, you're right. Call it my midlife crisis. I am now a student and do you know what it means to have classmates who were born the year I entered Dartmouth? Oh well, enough of my problems; let's get to the news:

Mike Bailin has been appointed president of Public/Private Ventures, a non-profit development research organization specializing in testing public/private solutions to the problem of youth unemployment. Let me give you a rundown of Mike's career, as it is interesting. He was graduated from Yale Law and practiced law. He taught at Dartmouth and was a director of Dartmouth's Jersey City Urban Education Center. He was a vice president for administration and community services at Franconia College, a managing director of the South Street Seaport Museum in New York City, and a consultant to the Ford Foundation. (Now that's what I call an interesting resume.)

Fred Meils has been appointed president of Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company of the Philippines. He oversees Pepsi's largest companyowned bottling operation, consisting of 14 plants, 200 warehouses, and 9,000 employees.

Mike Kolman (alias Ruh, Moms, Mother, etc.) is president of Brewer Machine and Gear Company in St. Louis. He is also on the board of directors of the Power Transmission Distributors Association. (Roily, you've done it again. Another feather in your cap. That Power Transmission organization is more impressive than B. J. Batchelder's presidency of Bus Bench Advertisers.) Mike coaches basketball, while Carolyn is active in Junior League. They have a daughter, 16, (no, that's not her name) and two sons, 14 and ten.

The Route 128 Corporate Lawyers Forum (that's the Massachusetts version of Silicon Valley) elected Jay Meltzer its new chairman. Jay is vice president, general counsel, and secretary of Damon Corporation, a health care company headquartered in Needham Heights, MA. Mike and his wife and three kids live in Waban, MA, near Bob Cahners. (No, Bob, they don't make breast implants in Silicon Valley.) The forum is a group of in-house counsel of approximately 50 companies who get together to plan what three-piece suits to wear the next month so no one shows up in court wearing the same suit.

Jim Cornehlsen has become a vice president of Handy Associates, an executive recruiting and executive compensation consulting firm. Jim and his wife of two years, Carol Kurzig, have a loft in Manhattan just around the corner from Barney's on 17th Street. Jim has two sons - Jamie, 11, and Josh, eight. Pictures of Jim and Carol's loft are in the May issue of 1001Decorating Ideas, in case any of you classmates want to know the color of their toilet seat. Jim socializes with Dave Plavin, Fred Grey, and Steve Ward, taking in such cultural activities as "Martinis and Mozart." Jim and Carol live on a sailboat in the summer. (If this couple can make it through a summer living on a sailboat, they definitely love each other.)

That's it for this month. Bye!
