After a very wet and dismal March and April, spring has finally arrived in the North Country and it is most welcome. Now we can get out and begin to clean up the yard and get the gardens going. Not too much to report this month, as the mails got bogged down as well.
Louise E. Rice, widow of Roger C. Rice, writes: "In January my daughter Ruth bought a condominium not too far from where we lived for 15 years. I am living with her there during the winter months, but back to Boothbay Harbor and the log cabin in Sprucewold for summer. Nearby is my daughter Dorothy, agranddaughter, grandson, and two great-grandsons. Easy living in the condo I'm getting lazy. Four generations Dartmouth Emerson Rice, class of 1887; Roger Rice, 1914; Emery Rice, 1942; and Douglas Rice, 1976."
In a recent issue of The Dartmouth, mention was made that many students visit the Frederick A. Davidson Ceramic Studio to throw pots. It is a welcome change from studying and a form of relaxation.
Not all news is good news, and I regret to say that Carleton L. Kingsford passed away at his home in West Newfield, on March 11. His obituary was in the May issue of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE.
This will be the last report until October, and I hope that during the summer months I will hear from many of you so I'll have a good column to send you in the fall.
Let's not forget that this is Alumni Fund time. Also, start thinking about being in Hanover in June 1984 for the 70th reunion. The dates are set for June 8, 9, and 10. Who in the class of 1914 will be reunion chairman? I hope you will all have a good summer, and I will be back with you in October.
