Once again the class had a mini-reunion at The Inn at Norwich on the weekend of the first football game of the season. The weather was perfect for both the tailgating party and the game with Princeton. Only the football team failed to add frosting to the cake. The total attendance was exactly the same as the year before - 26, counting wives and widows. We have sent the attendance list together with the minutes of the class meeting held Saturday morning to Robin Robinson for his next newsletter. The way we are hanging in there a repeat next year seems certain.

Don Bartlett had fallen the day before we arrived and was in the hospital with a broken hip. All present at the meeting signed a get-well note for Don.A later report says that after hip surgery he is now at home and doing well.

Thanks to Stan Chittick for forwarding various notes from classmates in response to the request for news which accompanied Stan's class dues letter. Some of the more brief and more upbeat comments are as follows: Kay Stilling: "All is well"; Frank Loveland: "We are still both vertical"; Slats Goddard: "We passed our 60th anniversary in good health."

To go to the less happy comments: EarlDaum: "Still in reasonably good shape physically but thinking more and more about moving to a condominium"; DanaBent: "Our activities are quite limited"; Boyce Butterfield: "I'm lucky; just survived surgery after three aneurysms."

Our most spectacular report comes from Ed Jones, our class representative in Costa Rica. I thought at first he was pulling my leg, but after checking our "40 Year History" in which he reported that his fifth wife had died in 1959, I am inclined to believe anything. His note to Stan is quoted in full: "No outstanding news, except that we had a small addition to the family, a son, born Bastille Day, July 14, 1984, whom we decided to call Richard Leland Jones class of 2004 or '05, despite a vasectomy 13 years ago after my last son was born. Damned doctor admitted they .didn't know too much about such things at that time and he owes me another vasectomy. Also recently came applications for admission to Dartmouth for my daughter Patricia for class of 1990. Also had two great-grandchildren born last year about the same time as Lee. Correspond some with Ronald Reagan whom I knew in Palm Springs, Calif., about 55 years ago. What's next, 65th? Sorry I missed the 60th. Best, Ed."
