Greetings, classmates. It certainly does not seem like the Christmas season, but we will be reading this column during the Christmas holidays. Actually, we have just returned from Hanover, where we had a wonderful fall weekend reunion with quite a few classmates, during the October 5 football weekend. We had some rain and some sunshine, but overall, if you discount the football game, all the events went well, and we had a very successful class meeting. We had 16 returning classmates at this mini-reunion weekend. We started off with a meeting on Saturday morning conducted by our president, Townes Harris. Attending the class meeting were: Dick Schribman,Dick Hollerith, Alan Epstein, Zeke Lanzillo, Jim Osborne (our class agent), Lansing Reed (our treasurer), Frank Weber,Don Evans (our vice president), GeorgeBingham, and Ham Chase.

A couple of interesting things transpired. One was that our class intern, who is a student assigned to work in the President's office, gave us his impressions of the job. He is Kris Hagerman '86 from Athens, Ohio. Kris is majoring in Russian civilization, and he was very friendly and very responsive in giving us insight into the problems that a president faces dealing with faculty and students and alumni. Kris follows quite a long and impressive line of student interns that our class has sponsored over the last seven to eight years, and the student intern is an important part of the President's advisory staff. This has certainly been a most worthwhile project for our class to support.

Following Kris, we were greeted by Dean of Residential Life Cristia Lesher. She showed us design drawings of the Cluster construction project, which is now being built in the two dormitories near the gymnasium, Topliff and New Hamp. Our class has agreed to provide money for the support of cultural and social programs which will be held there. The con- struction is expected to be completed in March 1986, and we have appointed DonEvans to be coordinator of this project. Don will meet with the student and faculty advisors and determine the course of the cultural and social programs that are desired; he is authorized to allocate the money which is our portion of support for this program. As you can see, our class is really involved in the student and daily life of the College. We are looking forward to the chance for our class members to participate in some of these programs with the students, or in some way sharing our experience with them. Certainly a wonderful way to continue our involvement with Dartmouth.

At our meeting, Jim Osborne mentioned the need for more participation in the Alumni Fund. Our class did well in the money column,- and actually did more than last year, but the participation was low, so that fewer members were doing more.

Frank Weber has been appointed reunion giving chairman for our 49th reunion, to be held June 12, 1987. Ham Chase and Dick Hollerith are, continuing the planning which will go into this reunion, and already it is taking shape as a very pleasurable experience to look forward to. We hope many of you will reserve a few days around June 12, 1987, to be in Hanover.

On Saturday evening, all the aforementioned classmates with their spouses were joined by Ralph DeFauce, Dick Leary,Bob Rowland, Mort Morrison, and their spouses for a delightful dinner at the Norwich Inn. The Norwich Inn did a fine job of putting us up over the weekend and feeding us courteously with a delightful, delicious series of meals. This particular evening ended a little differently than the last few, in that Romy Hollerith, Dick's wife, agreed to play the piano once again. Her selections were, of course, German, since she has been over here with Dick for only about two or three years. This led to a songfest with two great piano players, Romy and AlanEpstein. The singing was led by Don Evans, tenor, and Bob Rowland singing lead. Several other noteworthy former barbershoppers joined in. I feel that such programs will have a way of increasing class participation in our events. This weekend was thoroughly enjoyed by all, and I am sure that all intend to return next year when the same mini-reunion will be held during the UNH football weekend of September 28, 1986.

I hope this recounting of October's events has made your Christmas season a little more enjoyable. We will look forward to a lively winter. Your class officers are planning a get-together in Hanover, February 14-15, which will be publicized by newsletter. There will be two basketball games, two hockey games, a glee club concert, and a play - something that everyone can enjoy. One last note: Walter Peterson, president of Franklin Pierce College, was honored along with his wife, Dorothy, for his 10 years of service at that college in

Rindge, N.H. More than a hundred of his friends were invited to attend the dinner on September 28. George Bingham, HamChase, Jim Shanahan, and Larry Denton attended. It was a very upbeat reception and a very fitting tribute to a fine class member and an outstanding college president. Congratulations, Walter!
