"2001: where we are now, where we are going to be."

That's going to be the theme of our 25th reunion. It implies a look forward to our 40th reunion! Tom McDonough, who organized the Passages seminar at our 15th reunion, will put together the outline of this program for our 25th, says reunion chairman Ron Wybranowski. The program is likely to be called "Passages II."

Tom and Ron are exploring the possibility of texts, such as we used so successfully at our 15th reunion. The books might include Pathfinders and A Road LessTraveled. They're talking also about involving several key faculty members in the discussion. Let one of them know if you have other ideas for texts, etc. And in this age of videotapes, the College is well equipped to allow visual material as well, so consider that too.

A couple of interesting notes: In addition to the re-creation of the freshman trip, cosponsored by the DOC, sports chairman Larry Levy is planning golf and tennis tournaments. So you'd better step up your practicing. Road races are tentatively planned for both Saturday (6K and 10K) and Sunday (The Alumni Run, 5K and 10K,) so you might want to keep up your mileage throughout winter's cold.

The Friday night party at AD House will be a sixties party with a live band (and tents outside to handle the pverflow). Wouldn't it be a real trip if we dressed in sixties clothes as well? (How's that for an incentive to hit graduation weight with a six-months dieting campaign. Maybe we oughta have an award for the person who is closest to graduation weight and for the guy who slimmed down the most in an attempt to get there.)

Enough about reunion for this month, except to note that the list of people involved is steadily increasing. Ron needs your help as well, so why not volunteer?

Our third reunion-planning committee meeting in New York on September 18 included Dick Beattie, Bill Figilis, Bob Rosier, Marvin Witofsky (reunion entertainment chairman), and Art Kelton (our new head agent) as well as people who made earlier meetings, such as RonBoss (reunion giving chairman), HenryEberhardt (registration chairman and, of course, Alumni Fund director), Gerry Kaminsky (past class president), sports chairman Levy, Bob Mclndoe (participation chairman), book chairman Alan Orschel, Dave Prewitt (class president), VicRich (class treasurer), Frank Stephens (matching gifts), Hartley Webster, BertRowley (newsletter editor), Rick Foster (doctors chairman), and reunion chairman Wybranowski.

Other notes:

Alan Rozycki, a Dartmouth Medical School pediatrician, writes from Norwich, Vt.: "Dick Marrone was in town recently visiting his son, Rico, a sophomore at the College. He brought his wife and two sons en route from Santiago, Chile, to Stockholm, Sweden, where they'll live for the next few years.

"Also saw Mike Gazzaniga in Hanover. He has a new baby daughter and spends a few days a month at the hospital studying split-brain patients." So the baby derby is still on. But the time is about up to make it by reunion unless you've already gotten started!

According to a press release from Household Manufacturing, Robert Hoagland has been named president of its Freeport Division in Freeport, III., which manufactures such products as Halsey Taylor water coolers and Structo barbeque grills. Until August, he had been group vice president of UNR Industries Inc., in Chicago, responsible for its Home Products, Material Storage and Rohn Communications Towers divisions. He and his wife, Jean, have three children. Otter Anderson's recent newsletter, noting that two of Arthur Jacobson's children already have graduated from college, suggests that perhaps we ought to have a Wide Wide World presentation from 1961 children (from any college) who already are out in Real Life as well as a panel of current 1961 children who are Dartmouth undergraduates about life at Dartmouth today.

Engagement note: Henry Eberhardt became engaged to Laurie Burgess, secretary to this magazine. Marriage to come this spring.

Next month: a report from our minireunion.
