It's snowing outside, and you're curled up in front of a roaring electric fireplace with your latest copy of the Alumni Magazine. As you peruse the class notes, you stop at this one and are possessed by a sudden, overwhelming urge to pitch the entire periodical into the fire. Wait! First read my column, then do whatever you want. But remember, that's an electric fireplace, and the rotating light bulb will do little to sear these pages.

In some news, Kathy Marshall and Becca Glimp both competed in and finished in the Dartmouth Marathon. Rumor has it that Kathy finished third among the women and would have done better had it not been for the nasty right-of-way incident she had with Zola Budd on mile 23. Among the numerous supporters for these two were Mollie Hale and Joanna Tsiantis '85.

I don't mean to imply that Bob Lucic has dropped out of sight, but last week I saw his picture on a milk carton. Rumor had it that Bob was still paralegalling in New York City, but we ask anyone who may have seen Bob to call the toll-free number at the end of this column.

Other people who haven't written to me this month include Jim Moulton, who is rumored to still be up in the Hanover area. The vicious rumor also states that Jim is living with Rick Ehling, who is attending the Big Green med school. It's really funny to see Rick during halftime of the med school football games, running around and making an '89 on the field.

Watching thousands of reruns of the "Patty Duke Show" is I. David Bough, who attends Jefferson Medical School during commercials. Dave reports that med school is a piece of cake compared to some of the jams that Patty gets herself into.

I feel it's my duty as class secretary to report to you the solemn news that JohnBuehler has gotten a job. More details on the traumatic event as they develop.

I am turning this column in after the deadline because I was out at a pro wrestling match last night. You probably heard about it - Rambo vs. Hulk Hogan. It was pretty good, but they should have stopped the automatic weapons fire in the ring a lot earlier. Anyway, before the match, I'm backstage, watching some of these guys get loosened up, and who do I run into but Ted Dardani, who, using the nom de wrestling of "H Ted," is trying to make a shot at the world championship of the WWF. Well, Ted won his match that night, and he agreed to let me use his name in the column, as long as I don't give away his identity. So we've all got to keep this as our secret, 0.K.?

I was surprised to find that not all of our class shares in my roommate's (Aloke Mandal '85) conviction that "the world owes me a living." In fact, Linda Beane, one of our invaluable newsletter editors, has taken a job on the creative side of a Boston ad agency (to be named at a later date). Linda left the school she was teaching at for this job, where she vows it's time to make some life decisions. These vows will also appear in a subsequent issue.

Our other newsletter editor, Viva Hardigg, has just returned from a NationalGeographic expedition in South Korea. I can't wait to see some of the pictures she took.

On the subject of vows, Lucia Jackson, the captain of our ship, is about to take the big vows as she enters divinity school sometime next year. Lucia just finished a stint with Outward Bound.

Well, September marked another month that I didn't run into Peter Murphy on a train. After some careful sleuthing, I found out that Peter's job has taken him to Calgary for the past several months; however, he is probably back in Washington by the time you read this. I wish I had a job that could send me to exciting places like Calgary, or maybe even Saskatchewan, don't you?

Returning to Dartmouth last spring after an extended "L" term was Mike Lapham, who figures on finishing up in the spring. Mike says that if you think it was tough remembering people's names after taking one term off, you should see what it's like after eight! You don't even recognize half of the faces. Also returning to the Hanover Plain was Art Abelmann, who is up at Dartmouth taking some premed courses. Is this a hobby, Art?

Now that you've finished reading this month's column, feel free to pitch me into the fire, where I'll be consumed and reduced to ash by a rotating 60-watt light bulb. OK, so some of you won't try to burn me. Instead, you'll let me languish under a pile of old copies of Time and Newsweek. I'd rather burn. Look, I don't expect that much from this relationship, but you treat me like I'm dirt.

So go ahead and mistreat me, but don't expect me to come crawling back to you mailbox again next month. I've got my pride, you know, and I won't take much more of this abuse. Just wait, someday my turn will come.

Several Dartmouth alumni migrated north in August for the wedding of Janice Kay Tanaka'84 and Stephen S. Tower '79 in Anchorage, Alaska.
